Laurell K. Hamilton's "Micah" (tons of spoilers under cut)

Feb 25, 2006 00:17

I found "Micah" tonight at B&N. All horrible work week stuff vanished under the squee of new AB material. Read it in like 2 hours. 245 pages - but a short 245. Blank pages between chapters and more white space per page ( Read more... )

Told you it was good! And yeah, the tables are going to have to be updated! Micah's age and family, Fox, Franklin being moved to the sensitive table...that was an interesting plot twist, wasn't it? Him having psychic abilities that he's squelched and hidden? No wonder he'd reacted badly to her, especially if his power was similar to hers. Kind of like the cop in the one book who hated shifters because they made his skin crawl, because he had psychic ability and was picking up on their power.

LOL. Knew you'd pick up on the zombie raising similarities. Very cool that you and LKH both had the same idea! ;-) But wasn't the imagery in that whole section gorgeous to read? Anita walking through, taking power from the dead, caressing the tombstones like flowers...can you say zombie army?

And yes, Anita not asking was in character, but for all they are close Micah and her haven't been together all that long, and really are still in the feeling out stage. Hell, it was the first time they were actually alone together, and Micah was feeling a little insecure about her reaction to that and the room and seeing Fox. As well as the roses; although, JC may also be sending them as a form of his own insecurity. After all, Nate and Micah do LIVE with her, while JC, Asher, and Richard basically get visits.

And the whole bit where she was feeding off their power and they were feeding off of hers. We're gonna have a zombie army in a future book. It's coming. *g*

You know, though, Richard controlling that zombie, and inheriting some of her abilities is certainly becoming more interesting to think about. Will the battleground be St Louis, and who's going to be the enemy?

And wouldn't it piss Padma off if she turned out to be able to call ALL beasts, like him?

Maybe against the Council. St. Louis or maybe something brings them to the Council.

LOL. That would be a kick.

That's going to all depend on where the MOAD plays in. If Belle pisses her off enough to waken her to a rampage, then it might be against her with the Council as reluctant allies. But I believe, due to proximity, they'd be the first to die if she did rise up.

Didn't LKH say she was scouting locations for the Council in Europe for a JC/Anita/Richard visit?

Yeah, I think Laurell is thinking about setting a future book in Europe.

Was looking up blood oaths in Incubus Dreams, and reread the section where she's in Malcolm's church and makes the observation that she could draw power from all vampires, not just one's oathed to Jean-Claude, that they were like a battery to her. VERY similar to her comment in Micah about being able to draw power from the long dead, and more interestingly, that the dead could also draw power from her.

Don't know why I thought that important, other than the fact that as she's already aware, she doesn't need blood to raise the dead. And with enough power drawn from vampires, a zombie army would be childs play, wouldn't it? But how would she put them back?

Or, would that be similar to making a vampire without an oath? Uncontrolled?

See what happens when I have a serious like of sleep? I wander ramble! *g*
