Lots of spoilers ....mlady_rebeccaJuly 10 2005, 16:39:35 UTC
Sorry to hear you were having more trouble than I was with the file. I heard all of chapter 1 and part of chapter 2.
OK, spoiler time...
It starts with Anita and Ronnie talking. Ronnie is finally moving in with Louie and *shudder* becoming monogamous. Ronnie finally admits she's jealous of Anita and all her men.
Anita is 2 weeks late. She's very regular, and has only ever been one week late at the most. It's November and she didn't have a period in October.
In the past month she's slept with 6 guys. JC, Asher, Damian, Micah, Nathaniel, and Richard. No Jason. *pout* She slept with Richard 6 times. Nathaniel almost daily. Basically it sounds like it would be Richard or Nathaniel. Sounds like she'd prefer Nathaniel, since Richard would see this as another reason to get married and find the white picket fence.
Anita and Ronnie are fighting. Ronnie is jealous. Ronnie thinks she should just get an abortion. Anita says she believes in a woman's right to choose, but still thinks it's killing a child. She doesn't think she could do that.
They are still being bitchy when Micah and Nathaniel come back from their jog. Micah and Anita embrace and kiss and Ronnie accuses Anita of putting on a show after she admitted she was jealous. Nathaniel basically said "you want to see a show".
Nathaniel picks Anita up and is about to kiss her when Ronnie says "are you going to do that in front of the baby". Anita hadn't told any of the guys. She was waiting till she knew one way or the other.
Then there is this big scene with Nathaniel and Ronnie. Apparently Ronnie has been putting Nathaniel down left and right, but never in front of Anita or Micah. Nathaniel had told Anita only that she didn't treat him as if he was real. Nathaniel gets Ronnie to admit that she wants him. That's she driving herself crazy knowing she can't have him. And when she commits to Louie, she can't have the next man she lusts after.
I think Nate has been hanging around Jason too much. He's doing the psych bit today. Ronnie leaves, with a business card for a shrink.
Ronnie gone, they go back to the baby talk. They are due to go to the Circus to greet all the visiting Masters, so Anita says there isn't time to buy a test now. Nate says he'll run out and buy a test while Micah showers. Since Anita doesn't want to take it before the evening with the vamps, they'll wait and she can take it that night.
Nathaniel says she shouldn't be doing this alone. He admits he held a girl's hand before while she took a pregnancy test. He didn't think it was his, but it was a possibility. She lived on the street, like him. Was a prostitute and involved with drugs. Her name was Jenny. She was Nathaniel's first woman. He'd had plenty of men before that. They had sex twice. Nathaniel was 13, Jenny was 15. Jenny turned out to be pregnant. Her pimp paid for the abortion. Nathaniel went along to hold her hand.
That's about all I heard.
Like in ID, Anita is placed at 27, not 26. That was annoying me. All the other books line up to having her be 26. Laurell's messing up my nice little timeline.
Oh, it also said Nathaniel was off the street by 16. I thought he was turned at 17.

Ahh, once again you come through - you're the best!! And you're right - I so want this book now!
Nice to know she's still sleeping with Nat and that Damian's getting some too. *g*
Ronnie is starting to annoy me greatly - that's kind of a bully tactic to pick on the one you think is the weakest, and not in front of the two people who would defend him. Grrr.
And that is typical Anita to procrastinate. I do think it's just a scare, though, and she's not pregnant. I like that we learn more about Nat, too.
The timeline thing does bother me. And your right about Nat, too. Not to be pushy or anything, but the book isn't done yet - do you think if we found the quotes and emailed them to Darla they could maybe adjust it to fit the rest of the timeline?

But she also listed Asher, so that means we missed their first time together. *pout some more*

Oh, yes. But I loved the fact that Nathaniel was defending himself. I'm so proud of him.

I don't know if she'd change it or not. I wonder if I still have chapter numbers and stuff for the age references.

Damn! I didn't think of that! :( Well, at least he's in this book!
I guess it was her decided lack of girlfriends that she's confiding with Ronnie about the late period, but she would have been better off unloading on Jason. Ronnie's too jealous and self centered; poor Louie.
I like that, too - that the independence strenghth of will he exhibited in ID is being carried through. I liked that he became more than a one dimensional kind of character in that book. And that he's no longer playing a "damsel in distress" so to speak, and is sticking up for himself.
Well, she may not be at least it was referenced to her. I can't remember off the top of my head the exact books, but Anita's age is mentioned in the one when they take Ronnie out for her 30th b-day, and Nat was mentioned when they were talking about when Gabriel turned them. I'll help look them up if you want. Do you remember any other references?

Well, they seemed to be getting along for awhile there. Jason would be good, except he'd want to tell Jean-Claude.
I like that, too - that the independence strength of will he exhibited in ID is being carried through. I liked that he became more than a one dimensional kind of character in that book.
I never thought of Nate as one-dimensional. He just had a very different type of strength. Gee, he was practically a child when he was on the streets.

I thought I literally had the page numbers written down. But if I do they are on post-it notes which are probably long since lost.
Re: Lots of spoilers ....celeste_506July 10 2005, 20:56:50 UTC
I've discovered that if I let it stutter play, the next time I try it I get the whole thing. So far I've listened to the first 10 minutes, which took about an hour and a half to get! But it's worth it! *g*
Well, they seemed to be getting along for awhile there. Jason would be good, except he'd want to tell Jean-Claude.
Jason wouldn't be emotional, and would listen and not change the subject to himself. It is unfortunate that he would feel compelled to tell JC.
LKH tackles a lot of sensitive subjects in her books, and I have to applaud her taking on abortion too. I can understand Anita - pro choice means just that; each individual has the right to choose what is right for her. But I just bet there's going to be furor over this subject!
And Ronnie STILL has a bug up her butt about JC.
I never thought of Nate as one-dimensional. He just had a very different type of strength. Gee, he was practically a child when he was on the streets.
When he was first introduced, up until NIC, I saw him as just a minor character with not much depth. He started to come around for me a smidge in Blue Moon, but I felt he really came to the forefront in ID for me.
Ok, for Anita - NIC takes place in June of Year C; CS in September; ID in October.
From NIC Pg 4: "Or mahybe that was just me projecting my own insecurities. I'd turned twenty six early in the year, and frankly, at the rat I was going, I probably wouldn't have to worry about hitting thirty. Death cures all ills. Well, most of them."

In ID Nathaniel mentions when Gabriel turned him. They are all in Anita's kitchen. They are talking about weres passing out after shifting. Richard's girlfriend and Nate are the only ones who aren't alpha enough to avoid passing out. Nate says he's been a were for 3 years. Anita does the math and realizes he was seventeen when Gabriel infected him. It's in chpt 24.

I wonder if Gabriel took him off the street at 16 but waited a year to turn him until he was older? I just can't remember what book that was in.

So that's two quotes for age.
