One Fantastic Weekend

Originally uploaded by mkwhite11 I just had a wonderful weekend. It was partly because it was sunny and beautiful and in the 80s all weekend long, and it was partly because Duck came to visit. And even though there were a couple of incidents that could have ruined a regularly rainy, friendly-visitor-free weekend, very little could have ruined this one.

Duck showed up on Friday afternoon and bummed around town a little while until I got off of work. We went out to a Mariners game and, even though the Mariners lost, the beer was good, the sun was sunny, and it was a lot of fun. Later we went to Sun Liquor and enjoyed some lovely cocktails in that hidden corner of Capitol Hill.

On Saturday, we spent the morning playing Mario Kart and shooting trolls with exploding crossbow bolts. Later, we went to Alki Beach and then to see the Troll and Lenin in Fremont. On Saturday night, we grilled Copper River Sockeye Salmon and drank Dark And Stormys and played Carcassonne.

On Sunday we had a fantastic brunch at Coastal Kitchen. I went basic and stuck with blueberry pancakes, eggs, and a bloody mary, but Duck and Ray went a little fancier, ordering the gingerbread waffles and the tiramisu french toast. Yum!

Then we went canoeing for a couple hours, and it was beautiful. We paddled around in the arboretum a little, then out into Lake Washington and back through the ship canal. We drove over to the zoo afterwards. There were a lot of critters hiding, but the brown bears were true to form, swimming and looking for fish and pressing their noses to the glass. I swear I could go to the zoo just for those bears. We ate dinner last night at Flying Fish, then walked across Belltown and had dessert at the Palace Kitchen. It was quite an indulgent treat.

I was sorry to see Duck go when we parted ways at the bus tunnel this morning. It was a really good weekend, and most of the fun came from good company. (The weather was just a little part. Really.)
