Cooking and Gardening

I haven't posted anything of real substance here in a long time. It's one of those self promoting problems, where the more things I have back-logged to write about, the more arduous a task it seems like. Anyway, I'm not going to get into that back-log right away. For now, just a quick roll call on the past week.

In the past week, I made apple spice bread, brownies, two batches of guacamole, seven jars of pickles, chocolate chip cookies, and strawberry ice cream. I also froze about 10 zucchinis and a few ounces of basil. That's in addition to the regular meals.

This summer, I've been working on a farm one day per week in exchange for a share of the produce. This past week, I took home apples, pickling cucumbers, a lemon cucumber a regular cucumber, garlic, green and purple beans, lettuce, basil, dill, sage, tomatoes, zucchini, rainbow chard, onions, green onions, and carrots. It was a good week.

This summer, I've also been taking my second hand-building pottery class. This week I brought home a platter and a plate and a pitcher and a bowl. I also finished building two cookie jars, another plate, a small spice jar, a canister, a cup, and a teapot. All of those things still need to be glazed today or tomorrow.

I don't know a ton about psychology, so I can't explain why growing and preparing food and ceramic vessels feels so rewarding, but it really does. It feels good. Not important, but just good.
