Carnival 2008

I know a lot of you haven't heard from me much lately, even if you are still on campus and hanging out in the clusters. Carnival has been the primary reason for this, and APhiO's concessions business is always a giant task. I had actually forgotten to mention Move On last Friday (April 11), but there's not too much to get into, since it was rainy and ugly out and we stopped our moving earlier than we would've liked.

We therefore had to do more work building over the weekend, and I put a reasonable bit of time into it, but I was reasonably uninvolved with build this time. I instead stressed out over the loss of my phone and over helping my students prepare for a test last Monday. I also went to Joe's Hot Dogs, but in Shadyside instead of at Tech St (they go to Shadyside on Saturdays), mostly because Emma was happy to see me there. I also took her out for Pamela's on Sunday as a general stress-reliever, and that was quite awesome.

After some light involvement in build during the following week, Carnival hit on Thursday. I worked 4 hours that day, including a shift managing the stand, and I left the cleanup shift early since I was needed to help drive for supplies early the next morning. Friday morning, I helped buy a lot of supplies from GFS (Gordon Food Service, a good wholesaler out in Monroeville right across the street from Sam's Club), and that took up a lot of my morning. That day had 8 more hours of work. Saturday had another trip to Sam's Club and GFS in the early morning for massive restocking, made extra annoying by the fact that the interstate was closed westbound and we had a slow detour back. The day also included 8 hours more of work, so if you're counting, that's 20 hours of working in the stand together with an estimated 4 hours of shopping.

It's all over now, since today was the Teardown. There were a nice number of people in the middle of the day, when it was nice and sunny out, but the morning and especially the late afternoon were severely lacking in people. I basically had to stay after I was already really tired. I ended up being there from 9am to 7pm, a total of 10 hours. I know some people are definitely going to be pissed at the meeting tomorrow about this.

In the end, though, I'm amazed it all happened in the span of one weekend. Crazy times, but generally fun times. I think there are also some great people I've come to call my brothers (some not-so-great too, but none are "bad").
