The weekend awesomeness

The week was annoying, but I don't feel like talking about that, as it's just fleeting annoyance. A couple parts of the weekend didn't go quite as planned, but that happens too. I'd prefer to talk about the cool stuff of the weekend.

First off, I managed to get my work done by pretty early on Saturday, which was pretty cool. Then came Evil Stuff, the good old APhiO anti-talent show. There were some pretty awesome cupcakes in the food section, chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter things on top and black licorice so that they looked like spiders. They were also rather tasty. As for my acts, I performed Standing Idiots with a couple volunteers and also did "K is for Kompressor". I think both went over reasonably well. There were also some other funny acts, and I got a small award for being a good performer.

Today (well, Sunday), a lot of APhiO happened, and it was actually quite good. We had Walk This Way, the day where the pledges go to a special location, guess their secret big brothers, and then pizza is eaten. This was also a good chance for me to try and strike up conversations with all the pledges with whom I had not previously spoken. I don't think I did too much "striking up", but I feel a lot of the ice is broken now. It was a nifty event, and I even learned a new version of tic-tac-toe.

It is played with 9 boards in a 3x3 square. The first move can be in any square of any board. For the following moves, whatever square was picked determines which board must receive the next move. For example, if I move in the upper-left square of some board, my opponent must make the next move in the upper-left board. There are two possible ending conditions I learned. One is to keep playing until someone wins in some board. The other possibility is that once a win is made in some board, that board is erased and replaced by the mark of the winner (so if I win in a board playing X, the board is replaced by a giant X). Then, if a move would normally make a player play in that board, the player may instead to choose to move wherever desired. The goal is then to get three of your big marks in a row, like regular tic-tac-toe. This game has very amusing complexity, and while I lost my first game, I must admit it was entertaining.

I also played some DDR today. That's probably the last information I particularly want to talk about. In the Pitt student union, I tried out the ITG machine and got over 90% on Destiny expert. Considering I have a lot of trouble with the runs on that 11, I'm pretty pleased. I also took out my soft pads for the first time in a little while, and I got AAA on Kind Lady (finally!) and also on Healing Vision: Angelic Mix. I'm thrilled, and I don't know where those performances came from.

Tomorrow is Rocky Horror Picture Show. I hope not to get myself too prematurely excited, but this could be really cool.

tic-tac-toe, evil stuff, pledges, rocky horror, aphio, ddr
