This has been a pretty busy week for me. Thursday morning, my little sister graduated from training and officially became a Military Police Soldier in the US Army. I feel extremely guilty for not going to her graduation. I had planned on it for months, but she wasn't sure until last weekend whether she was going to graduate. I'll try to make sure we get to do something fun when she comes up to visit next week before she flies out to Germany for duty.
I totally would have boarded a last-minute flight out to Missouri, but yesterday was my first day of work at Boeing. Most of the day was spent in orientation, but after a late lunch I went over to my building and got to know the group a little better. I met a bunch of people, but I think I'll only remember a few names by Monday (I actually jotted them down on my little notepad so that I would remember a few names at least). I am a programmer/analyst for one of the CAD/CAM support groups. We mainly support CATIA. I had about 2 hours with my group so I'm still not sure exactly what my first project will be, but I know they will be pulling me in a lot of different directions. I'm going to be doing some helpdesk support, partly because I "sound like I have a nice phone voice, and surely will not go out of my way to upset people on the phone" and partly because it's a great way to dig in and get to know some of the applicaitons we support. I'll also be working on generating test plans for existing applications, and revamping the training curriculum. I will be doing some application development, and there is another task I'll be working on, but we ran out of time and didn't get around to discussing it. I'm sure I'll learn all about it on Monday (or at least enough to make me want to go run away!)
This coming week doesn't look much less chaotic. I will be given actual assignments at work, signing up for the gym, attending a home financing seminar at the credit union, picking up steph from the airport, and getting ready for a family-filled Thanksgiving week. Wheeee!
