I woke up this morning at nine o' clock on the dot. I laid in bed for a while and stared up at the ceiling. My stomach churned when I thought about all I had to do today. I went over my schedule carefully, replaying it over and over in my head until it was like a broken record. I had to clean the living room, the kitchen, wash dishes, shower and get dressed before we had to leave to pick up my grandmother from the airport this afternoon. Nothing could ruin this day, I told myself. Absolutely nothing.
Then I got up...
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and pitter-pattered down the hall in my pajamas and my stockinged feet. I looked forward to the waffles that I planned on making for myself before I had to start the day's activities. I was mid-eye rub when I realized that my socks were soaking wet, and the material squished when I moved. Confused, I looked down at myself. The carpet in the dining room was soaked.
I screamed and ran to shut off the washing machine, which was still running. One of the pipes had broken loose and water was now generously applied all over the dining room carpet. Luckily, it did not go any further than that.
*sigh* Perfect timing, huh? It took me at least three hours to get the carpet to resemble anything close to driness. Luckily, my grandmother is sleeping at a hotel, upon her insistence, so it'll be okay. The carpet just smells muggy, but after we lit a few candles and plugged in a Glade's, the stench is masked.
Other than that, it took us at least one hour to find my grandmother after she stepped off the plane. Because of the events of 9-11, we were told we could not stand in certain areas. If we had been allowed to stand in those spots, it would have easy to find her. She'd been waiting near the baggage claim area the whole time.
Grrr...
However, after those unfortunate events, the day took a slight turn for the better. I got to spend time with my grandmother. That makes me happy.
Well, you guys, I'm tired. I just wanted to update to give you guys something to laugh about. Looking back on it now, I see just how comical it really is. I'll tell you one thing, life is never boring.
