I ran most of the first 9 miles of the half/marathon route tonight. I meant to do that for previous long runs, but never did. Seeing the Texas Iron long run route reminded me!
I got to see the Palmer Events Center sign three times which had the Marathon Expo on its display. I was so excited to see four
guitars along my route. It was also just lovely running along South Congress Avenue. So many cool places that were open, even on a Sunday evening. I just ♥ South Austin!!
It really suprised me how short it was running from Riverside to Oltorf. When I used to take the #13 South Congress bus, it sure seemed further. Then again, it's not 100° out. I'm glad I ran those miles. Although the Cesar Chavez/Lake Austin Blvd part was very familiar to me, it's been a long time since I've run south on South Congress. The first mile suuuuuucks. However, it helps you not go out too fast, so that's a major plus for marathoners!
I ran by a parked SUV with IM stickers on it while running downhill on 1st street. I ran by one of my old customers and Jack & Adam's. I witnessed some absurd driving by someone who doesn't deserve their license. Impatient driver stuck at the light at Riverside & Lamar heading east. Two cars in front of the driver stopped when the light turned red. Driver decides he/she is above red lights, and squeals their tires as they go into the opposite traffic lane to turn left anyway... through the red light! A motorcycle stopped for the red light going north honked at the jerk. I see way too much of this everyday. I ran over the pedestrian bridge and onto the trail. The sunset was just beautiful along the water!! I ran off the trail near the high school where sometimes there can be water to jump over. About 3 or 4 SUVs were parked in and around there while loading up their kayaks. One guy said to his buddy as I ran by, "Isn't it funny how the kayakers are the last to get outta here?" Yeah, I'll see if you're still around when I'm back on the trail later tonight!
I ran along Lake Austin Blvd which was thankfully quiet due to the Super Bowl. Running back towards my car, I had to run in a couple of areas that were awfully dark. I hate that. I had planned to start walking when I hit 1:45, but I really wanted to get back to my car, so I ran an extra 15 minutes. Not a big deal since I didn't stop my watch waiting for crosswalks or checking for water at the Rock. (There wasn't any.) My legs were a little tired towards the end, but I felt wonderful! I ran somewhere around 10 or so miles. Not sure. Longest run since training for Silverman. (I even drank Endurox afterwards.) Yippee!
Two weeks til the half marathon!
