I can’t help it. I just think Green Lantern looks like a great big shiny CGI flop. Maybe I’m wrong-probably I’m wrong-but that’s what I see when I watch the trailers.

We went to Pirates and to X-Men this weekend. By half an hour in I already thought Pirates was too long. It had its moments of charm, of course, but it could easily have been 45 ( Read more... )

That was a good movie. And yes, that one bit (and no, I didn't have to ask which one) was definitely the gem of the whole thing.

I'm confused, though, about whether this Magneto is supposed to grow up to be McKellan's. I'd heard this movie was supposed to reboot the franchise, that they were (as they're in the process of doing with Spidey) starting fresh, throwing out the old continuity. There are indications of that, like young Storm or the presence of Alex Summers (and the absence of his brother). But then, the opening scene is taken right from the opening of the first X-Men movie. And there is that certain cameo.

I don't mind Beast starting off as a pencil-necked geek, and certainly youthful desire to "cure" his appearance (and thus the deep sense of shame which drives that) is within canon (unlike whatever they did to Angel and Moira). But yes, I preferred Kelsey Grammer's cultured tones and sense of fun. (Though I didn't think much of that movie as a whole, and Beast's in-battle line, cut off with "Oh, you get the point" seemed a bit of a slap in the face.)

Got mixed feelings about their playing with history, but I think, overall, they did a good job of it. And it is true to the older comics.

I do like what they did with Raven, even if that's a complete departure from her established history elsewhere.

All in all... good movie.

Glad to hear ElecriCity is coming along so well. Looking forward to hearing more when you're ready. :)

Speaking of which... I expect I'm somewhere on that list of several hundred thousand things. I will not be at all miffed or concerned if I'm relatively low on that list. No rush here. :)
