smutmas recs.

It happened today as it does every other year when I reach a certain point and I realize that I really don't like Christmas. I don't mean to come off as Scrooge-like or ungrateful. It's just a certain point I start to break. It's the shopping and the post office runs and the card writing and the cookie baking and the "When am I going to get all ( Read more... )

okay, i feel like something must be off with my h/d tastes because everyone seems to be reccing that moon fic to high heavens but i'm feeling more than meh about it. i mean...i couldn't even read three paragraphs of it without going, "okay, backbutton now!". i skimmed the rest and....yeah, not impressed.

Well, it definitely reads more as a Draco piece than a h/d one. It's very much all Draco and therefore it could almost qualify as gen save for the last few thousand words. I'm not going to try to sell someone on something they know they won't like, and from what I've gathered via a few offline conversations is that the prevailing thought is the author is not an h/d-writer, which is why it may ping off to someone more used to current h/d conventions. Personally, however, I've been thirsting for more Draco-centric pieces and have grumbled here a few times about the dearth post-hbp h/d fics, so it was exactly up my alley.

oh yeah, i agree that this isn't really an h/d piece, but rather draco gen with some sex thrown in. i'm sure the story would have been just fine without the few times harry and draco get off with one another, but that obviously doesn't work for smutmas. i don't mind draco-centric pieces, but i like it when draco is a little less, er, bastardly, i have to say.

Yeah, obviously people have different tastes. I wouldn't pretend otherwise. People read characters differently and so on, especially with characters more open to interpretation. I mean, generally loathe the idea that Harry would ever want to have sex with Snape, but plenty of others love Snarry.

Really, this was a list of what I liked, not what people should like.

BTW, I was excited to see Gay Aurors updated, but I probably won't get a chance to read it until I visit my mom at Christmas. I know I have been terrible about commenting, but I'm really enjoying it. Even all that sex.

Oh yeah. I was just also getting the feeling like, "wow... everyone's reccing it like mad and I was... so not into it." So I was just poking in to say, "nope, not just you." (although it might be just us :) )

Oh I didn't know you were reading it! :) Yeah, all of that sex and crack. I don't know what I'm thinking with all of that ;)

I was reading it off LJ's RSS feeds because my office was blocking LJ access, but I've been reading it. Sorry about not commenting. It's one of my New Year's resolutions to comment more.
