smutmas recs.
It happened today as it does every other year when I reach a certain point and I realize that I really don't like Christmas. I don't mean to come off as Scrooge-like or ungrateful. It's just a certain point I start to break. It's the shopping and the post office runs and the card writing and the cookie baking and the "When am I going to get all done!"
Yep, I can't wait until it's January. You know this would be a good time of year to have magic. Gift wrapping charms, anyone? Quick quills for holiday cards.
Smutmas recs. (I gifted myself some time to catch up on some reading. I'm still woefully behind, but here are a few that I really liked.)
Under the Cold, Wan Moon [Harry/Draco]
Wow. I made mistake of starting this early yesterday morning when I couldn't sleep. Of course, I had to stop midway through because I had leave to go to work, so I ended up at work yesterday with one eye on a reduced-size browser window, avidly reading, and one eye on my actual work. Needless to say, I got nothing done. I can't remember the last time an HP fic sucked me in to where I couldn't put it down, RL bedamned. Really amazing characterization of Draco. It reminded my of why I find his character interesting in the first place. Great storytelling. Great H/D interaction. It occurred to me that the character death warning might be scaring people away but don't let it.
The Door to Nowhere [Lucius/Arthur, R]
The curiosity factor let me to click on the link, but this was totally not what I expected. I expected hate!sex, which there is, but it's not squicky at all. In fact it's all part of the clever plot. Excellent interpretation of both characters.
Light on in Winter [Harry/Remus, R]
A short piece that manages to pack in a lot of emotion and nuance.

A Test of Character [Harry/Draco, NC-17]
Another long, meaty read. Interesting twist on the Harry/Draco are Aurors trope in that Draco must befriend Harry in order finish his Auror training. I sort of wish there was more of the befriending shown and less of the jumping into the romance, but the romantic scenes and the sex (guh) were extremely well done without overdoing it. I thought the Harry in this fic as seen through Draco's eyes was so sexy. Yep, I could definitely see the attraction.
Last but not least, a very Happy Birthday to nqdonne who came to my beta call in several time of need including Thanksgiving night. I would not have finished my Smutmas fic without you. Cheers!
