A/N:  Ok, so it looks like I won't be retiring the miyahearts pen anytime soon.  But I'm really glad to share this story with you all.  It's based on a short story I wrote for school but I'm editing it for Khun and Woo.  Please enjoy.  :) xoxo, Miya.

Nichkhun had quickly risen to the top of his company, a feat that seemed impossible considering he was only 27 years old.  The youngest executive in the company’s history, and one of the youngest in the world - he found himself running one of the most successful investment and financial companies in Asia, and his new found position was the perfect reason to move back to town where he went to college.  He had fallen in love with the quaint city life that the town had to offer, and with the university nearby it had everything to keep a young twenty-something entertained while having the amenities of a cozier feeling than the large city.  He was managing his company from a smaller office, with a smaller staff, however he liked it much better as he felt more comfortable in this space.

Life had been really good to him, he had graduated with honors, landed a good job after school, had succeeded in so many ways, and even his personal life had good accomplishments, one of the being that his current girlfriend, Victoria Song, was the daughter and next in line proprietor of one of the largest shipping companies in the Pacific.  Nichkhun had bought out an old shop that he had turned into a three story loft, the bottom floor serving as his garage, the middle floor his living area, and the top a full personal suite filled with the most luxurious furnishings.  Life had seemed to be very well for him, yet he sometimes felt a bit empty.

Although he seemed to live a complete life, there was one thing that he could never rest, he couldn’t really identify it specifically other than he felt incomplete, and that might have been the reason why he moved back to his college town - he felt almost drawn to the town as if there was something he had forgotten there when he was in school.  At least he knew it was someone.  All four years of college, Nichkhun had kept a close friendship with his roommate, Wooyoung. Wooyoung had been a close friend, and one day while Nichkhun was away on an internship tour he had vanished.  Nichkhun came back to an empty dorm, no sight or trace of Wooyoung.  He had spent some time searching for the boy, but nothing came up.  No one seemed to know what had happened to him other than that he left without saying goodbye and that in itself tore Nichkhun apart, thinking he had shared a special relationship with Wooyoung and yet it was so easy for the boy to leave.  He had managed to move on, but there were still fond memories of their time together, memories in which Nichkhun clutched onto in his heart - wanting to turn back time, wanting to understand why?  How? And why is it that he still couldn’t let go.

The Spring semester had just ended and classes were about to be dismissed at the university, which meant more bustling crowds at the nearby social establishments.  Nichkhun tried to avoid the younger scene, but by Victoria’s insistence he found himself at one of the newest clubs, Hottest.  Nichkhun bobbed his head to the music as he watched Victoria dance crazily on the dance floor, his beer starting to warm up in his hands.  He felt entirely out of place there as he looked at the juvenile faces of the other patrons, college students no doubt celebrating the end of the school year.

“Come on dance with me.”  Victoria yanked on his arm but Nichkhun just smiled and shook his head.

“I’m tired Vic.  Besides, I feel sort of old in here.”  Nichkhun responded.

“You’re only as old as you feel.”  Victoria laughed then pulled herself in, sloppily kissing him, almost nearly missing his mouth.

“Vic, I think you’re done.  You’re drunk.  We should get you home.”  Nichkhun advised.

“Will you spend the night?”  Victoria ran her index finger down Nichkhun’s torso towards the top of his slacks.

“No, not tonight.  I have work to catch up on.”  Nichkhun said and moved her hands, taking her finger to his lips and kissing it softly.

“Party pooper!  I’ll stay here for a bit more, you should go if you want.  I don’t want to ruin your fun.”  Victoria spat and left him alone.  Nichkhun sometimes wondered why he was in this relationship, it was good for business, but more often than not he found himself not wanting to be near her.

Nichkhun left the club and walked out into the street, heading towards his car.  He felt a rumble in his stomach and decided to check out the market across the street, surprised that it was still open at this hour.  He went in and roamed the aisles looking for something to feed his appetite.  Suddenly he was struck by the sight of a little boy, standing in front of a kid’s meal display with a large airplane built out of paper hanging from the roof.  There was a cute innocence to the scene that Nichkhun couldn’t help but be amused.

“Pretty cool huh?  You wanna fly in an airplane like that?”  Nichkhun approached the child who turned around in surprise.

“Yeah, I want to fly in a plane like that one day.”  The boy was in awe.

“You mean you’ve never ridden an airplane?”  Nichkhun smiled and the boy just shook his head.

“How old are you?”  Nichkhun asked and the little boy held up four of his stubby little fingers. “Four?  Wow.”  Nichkhun played along causing the boy to smile.  “Where are you parents bud?”  He asked realizing the boy had been standing there alone for too long than he should be.

“I don’t know.  My dad is around here somewhere.”  The boy shrugged his shoulders.

“Well we should look for him, before he starts to get worried.”  Nichkhun said and the boy instinctively placed his hands in the man’s and followed him.  They roamed a few more aisles till they heard worried calls from the other side of the aisle.

“Alex!  Alex!  Where are you?!”  The voice of the boy’s father called.

“Daddy, I’m here!”  The boy called out and soon there was a rush of footsteps from the corner and the boy’s father came rushing to him scooping him up in his arms.

“Alex!  I told you not to wander off, do you know how much you worried me? “ The man hugged his son tightly.  “Don’t you ever do that again, you’re going to give dad a heart attack.”  The man sighed in relief.

“Sorry daddy, it’s just they have that airplane - you know the one from the commercials.”  The boy said excitedly.

“That’s no reason, Alex.  I’m just glad you’re okay.”  The father said. “Thank you sir for watching out for my son, he’s a bit of a wanderer.”  The man said before looking up.

“Just like his father.”  Nichkhun responded.  “Wooyoung.”

Wooyoung looked up with wide eyes.  “Khun.”  Suddenly Wooyoung picked up the boy and rushed out without saying anything else to Nichkhun.  Nichkhun was alarmed by his sudden exit and chased after him.

“Wooyoung, Wooyoung!  Wait!”  Nichkhun tried to catch up.  Wooyoung kept walked, the boy in his arms trying to get away.

“Woo!  Please wait!”  Nichkhun called out and finally caught up to him catching him by the arm.  “Woo, what the hell?  You disappear four years ago without any word, and I see you out of the blue…with a son and you can’t even have a decent conversation with me?  Are you trying to avoid me or something?”  Nichkhun became impatient.

“Khun…I’m sorry.  Please understand, I…I needed to leave.  I had to take care of Alex and I didn’t have time to explain to anyone.”  Wooyoung caught his breath.

“Not even me!  I was your best friend!  Four years!  I shared everything with you for four years and you couldn’t even tell me that you had a son!”  Nichkhun felt every part of his emotions bubble upwards.  “I think I would have wanted to know that.  Besides, I thought…”  Nichkhun paused wondering if old wounds were worth re-opening.  The hell with it.  “I thought you loved me.”

Wooyoung froze.  “Love you?”  He asked confused.

“I guess you didn’t.”  Nichkhun could sense the tone in Wooyoung’s voice.  “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to assume anything… maybe it meant more to me than it did to you.”  Nichkhun let go of his arm.

“Khun…please don’t.”  Wooyoung stopped him.  “There’s so many things I want to tell you, things I know I need to explain.  But… I can’t.  Not because I don’t want to but because… I’m scared.  I have Alex to look after now, and I can’t be making decisions just for myself anymore.  Alex is my life, I hope you can understand.”  Wooyoung responded with regret.

“I can see that.  He’s beautiful Woo… so smart and handsome.  Just like his dad.”  Nichkhun smiled and he nipped Alex’s chin with his fingers the boy just looked up with tired eyes.

“He is beautiful, just like his dad.”  Wooyoung wanted to say but just closed his eyes.  “We need to go.”  Wooyoung said shortly and started to walk again.

“Wait, Woo.  Please tell me that I can see you again.  I want to rebuild…our friendship.  It’s been a long time.”  Nichkhun asked.

“We’ll see.  Like I said, I have to take care of Alex first.”  Wooyoung said.

“Understood.  Here, take this.”  Nichkhun said and handed him his business card.  “My personal  line is on the back, give me a call… whenever.”  Nichkhun said and Wooyoung took the card and nodded.

“Hey big guy, take good care of your daddy okay?”  Nichkhun smiled at the little boy who just nodded.  Nichkhun got a good look at the boy’s eyes, there was something there that he hadn’t noticed before.  Something familiar, something unanswered.

“We need to go.”  Wooyoung said letting Alex to his feet and taking his hand.

“Of course.  Good night.”  Nichkhun said and watched as Wooyoung and his son turned to leave.  Nichkhun couldn’t let it go, he had no intentions to let Wooyoung walk out of his life again and this time he’d make sure he’d stay.

Wooyoung reached home and brought Alex into the house, tucking him into his bed.  The boy had fallen asleep on the car ride home.  Wooyoung stood over his bed and watched him for a few moments, amazed how he had managed to raise Alex alone all these years. The struggles he had to go through, the sacrifices he made, it seemed so unfair to him and yet he knew  that he had had to do it, for Alex and for Nichkhun.  Wooyoung felt a part of his heart start to swell with sadness.  Suddenly a soft cry came from the sleeping boy.

“Daddy.”  He called out and Wooyoung instinctively dropped down and comforted the boy.

“It’s okay Alex, I’m here.”  Wooyoung hushed him while stroking his hair.

“Daddy, don’t leave me.”  Alex cried.

“I’ll never leave you.”  Wooyoung said and the words had pacified the boy back to sleep.  “I’ll never leave you.”  Wooyoung repeated again.
