Why I support the effort in Afghanistan

Because for centuries there have been civil wars and aggressive tribes of people violently controlling peaceful tribes of people there, and the rest of the world turned the other cheek (or didn't even know about it) or worse, played a hand in that violence for personal gain (example - the fight against communism, where we gave weapons to these aggressive groups!). For centuries we have let this go on, and it is our fault. Not just the fault of the United States, but the fault of the entire world (yes, that includes Japan, and any other seemingly unrelated country).

This is because we are all one. What you do to another, you do to yourself. What you do to yourself, to do to all. What one does to another, one does to you, and all. These are our brethren, and if we agree with violence and fundamentalism, then we could turn the other way and go about abusing other people like we have in the past.

I think our society, while many social aspects have regressed or not changed at all, at least is aware that we need to change and is aware on some conscious level of our interconnectedness as a whole planet. How can we go about saving the other species of the world, when we can't even save our own species.

I do, however, think that our intentions in supporting the so-called "war" in Afghanistan, and support in Pakistan, need to be focused and clear. I encourage others to read about Afghanistan's past and present or at least just look at images of the women in Afghanistan, and focus on healing that area of the world - AS A PART OF OURSELVES. I believe that through this we can raise collective consciousness and our efforts will become more focused and become more effectual. Perhaps violence from our defensive line will end and the aggressive fundamentalist Taliban tribe (people need to stop confusing the Taliban with Al Qaeda, too) will become part of that collective awareness, and abandon their weapons for peaceful negotiations.

If we all truly concentrate on this, it will happen. Because we are all one! Please understand this.
