Pokemon Go Safari Zone!

Pokemon Go Safari Zone at Sentosa this weekend!! So colleagues AT, E and I balloted for Good Friday tickets together, didn't get it, but mayu managed to get tickets for her account and 彼‘s account. We quickly discovered that the tickets are not tied to the accounts that we applied for, so I could play it on my account (since 彼 is stuck working and not an active player anyway).

The event starts at 10AM, mayu and I reached around 9:30 and sat around waiting for the check-in point at RWS to start. Huge crowd but still comfortable. It was just funny that once the event start, you have huge masses of phone-zombies milling around.

We met up with colleague AT, bumped into some other colleagues, and then made our way to Palawan Beach which is the center of the event. There are tents set up where trainers can charge their phones etc. With the Pokemon Go background music and all the trainers walking around dressed in t-shirt shorts, caps against the sun, carrying backpacks with water packs, powerbanks etc, it felt almost like we're transported into some MMO game! Totally worth it despite the heat and sun.

Highlight of the event is the 6m tall Lapras float! So cute and beautiful I just want to bring one home. The water looks super inviting we were regretting not bringing swimwear and towels. We still went in to the shallow end to soak our legs which felt really good since the weather was so warm (hitting 33 degrees c in the afternooon)

So what is Pokemon Go without walking, we spent the rest of most of the day walking to and fro down this long stretch of beach. It got too hot around 2-3pm. Colleague AT had booked a hotel room for the night with her friends and so we quickly retreated to her hotel room for some well-deserved air-con, rest and to re-charge our devices.

Really pretty pokestops added for the event!

The Crowd. All you zombies.

The chance of catching a shiny lapras seemed so low.... and around 7pm, just as I've given up all hope and was ready to go for dinner, my little shiny lapras showed up!! XDD Out of 7 of us, 3 got it at the end of the day~.

I feel like each day and each week is passing really fast, perhaps because work has been quite fulfilling recently. I actually quite enjoy my work these days, except I wish the salary can be higher. It's a pretty known fact that gaming industry doesnt pay as well (I think they expect us to survive on our passion for gaminga nd game development... 食えるの?).

There were quite a bit of unhappiness among the seniors in the company and many left over the last one year because last year, the salary for newhires and juniors was adjusted to increase recruitment, and reduce turnover. This pretty much resulted in the juniors salary being very close to the seniors who spent years building up their career to reach the current salary... To make things worse, our boss at the top said (I quote) "you can only blame yourselves for being born too early".

I have a 4 point rule when it comes to whether it is time to stay or move.
1. Job satisfaction
2. Colleagues and direct Boss
3. Salary
4. Company direction and management

I do love my current job and responsibilities. I have great colleagues and I love my direct boss. I can't say I love the salary, since with my capabilities in language and project management, it probably won't be too difficult to get another job that pays higher. I do like the fact our company is doing better this few years compared to when I first joined 5 years ago, but I'm utterly dissappointed by the boss at the top. So it is probably a 1, 1, 0.5. 0.5. At 3 points it is still somewhat ok... but salary-wise, given that 彼 and I are planning to buy our house this year, I am hoping for a higher salary. Now there are rumors that management has managed to convinced our hq in Japan to make salary adjustments for the seniors as well, sometime in June~July. So that's definitiely something I'm looking forward to. If not, maybe it is time to start doing some job hunting.

Food

Tired out new hotpot shop. We had mala and tomato soup. The mala was not bad, though nothing can beat ririhong. The tomato soup tastes like haidilao soup base lol

Also from a new shop near our office. Their today's special pasta and truffle mushrooms~
