Someone on tumblr posted these amazing looking oreo brownies with whole oreos baked right into them. I decided right on the spot that I had to make them!

Oreo Brownies
(Original brownie recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Bodacious-Brownies/Detail.aspx )

Ingredients:
  • 10 Tablespoons butter or margarine (1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons )
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • Package of oreos
  • Jar of marshmallow creme (optional)
  • Quick Chocolate Frosting (optional, recipe below)
Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt butter in medium sauce pan. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar and cocoa. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the chocolate mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Spread half the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Layer whole oreos on top of the batter, then top with the reaining batter.
  4. Bake for 25-35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. While still warm, spread marshmallow creme over top of the brownies, then pour Quick Chocolate Frosting on top Cool in pan on a wire rack.

Quick Chocolate Frosting
2/3 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons milk
3 Tablespoons butter or margarine

Mix and bring to boil; boil 30 seconds. Remove from heat; stir in 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces til melted. Mixture will be thin.

The person I got the idea from also added 1/2 cup cookies and cream ice cream into the batter, but I found this made my brownies way too sweet. I think it's better to just add the chocolate chips and maybe some crushed up oreos into the batter instead of the ice cream.
