crack cookies, the mystery revealed

Sep 24, 2008 16:47

Yes, the infamous crack cookies. So good they must have something illegal in them. The name hails from the first time I made these in college. I was stunned (and a little disturbed) by the reactions of some of my friends - let's just say it involved writhing on the floor in ecstasy. Yeah. ...

Seriously, these cookies are super easy to make. They don't even require real measurements-- 1 1/2 cups of cookie crumbs = "enough cookie crumbs to cover the bottom of the pan" and all the other toppings = "however much you feel like throwing on top."

You can use whatever toppings suit your taste. This is a good odds and ends recipe, and I often use it to get rid of the last remaining bits of chocolate chips or whatever leftover from other recipes. I listed what I usually put in them, but this time I also threw in some butterscotch chips for good measure.

So, for the good or ill of my friends and their waistlines, I'm posting this recipe, and may your diets rest in peace. ^_^'''

Even Killer Rabbits like crack cookies.

Magic Cookie Bars
(aka Crack Cookies, aka many other vaguely or not so vaguely suggestive nicknames)

1 stick of margarine or butter
1 ½ cups cookie crumbs
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chocolate chips
½ cup toffee bits

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt 1 stick of margarine or butter in a 9x13” pan in the oven. Sprinkle cookie crumbs evenly over the melted margarine and then cover evenly with the can of sweetened condensed milk. Top evenly with the toppings of your choice and press down slightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. (325 for a glass dish) Cut into bars while still warm. Store, loosely covered, at room temperature.
