There's a girl asleep in one of the armchairs by the fire.

Or at least, she was asleep.

Now, she has one eyelid cracked and is watching the man with the red velvet cloth.

With one eye or not, he's quick to notice the attention of another person.

(it's useful when in search of a meal)

He doesn't look over yet; his hands are preoccupied, anyway, folding up the cloth into a neat square. It feels pleasant on his hands. Still warm, unblemished, soft.

And, that accomplished, he glances over, smile already on his face (all charm, with ulterior motives hiding just behind his closed lips).

It's a very familiar smile.

(kissed the boys and made them cry)

"Hello."

He cocks his head to one side.

(any path; so many worth exploring. just one would be so boring. and look what you're ignoring...)

"Slept well, my dear?"

"Quite, thank you."

She stretches her legs.

"I don't believe we've met."

(this one you would have remembered)

"A pity, isn't it?"

One hand moves unconsciously, curling the red cloth around itself like a boxer's wraps.

"I'll tell you my name if you tell me yours."

That makes her smile (but not enough to show her teeth).

"Sounds like a fair trade.

My name is Kite."

[whosafraidof]

"I am the Wolf."

Leaning over one arm, he rests his elbow on it, running his fingers across his chin.

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Kite."

"And you, Sir Wolf."

She shifts a little in her chair (the better to see him).

"Have you been coming here long?"

[whosafraidof]

"Long enough."

Not much of an answer. Enough of one.

"Yourself?"

[spareprincess]

"A few months."

In as much as time means anything to this place.

"Do you enjoy it here?"

[whosafraidof]

"I do."

Another quick smile. (No teeth.)

"I've found that there's good company to be found, here."

The corners of her mouth curl up, a little too sharp to be a smile.

"Very true; so much variety. It's...refreshing."

[whosafraidof]

"Home can get a little ... dull after a while."

As free as he may be to wander, a Wolf can get tired of the usual garden (or rather, woodland) variety of prey.

"All the old familiar places," she murmurs.

"Where is home, if you don't mind my asking?"

"The forest," he says, very simply.

"Yours?"
