Mia's dinner, the first one she's had in Milliways after her trip to England, is a very quiet one. So quiet that when she listens, she can hear rustling under her table. When she looks, she sees Dobby bandaging his ironed hands. Once he sees Mia, he jumps back startled.
"Don't be afraid," she tells him. "I won't hurt you."
"Dobby is sorry for being unders your table," he says, sniffling a little.
"You don't have to sit under there. Why don't you sit in the seat with me?"
Dobby bursts into noisy tears, wringing his pillowcase and saying, "Such kindness Dobby has been shown heres! Never has Dobby known it before, Miss!"
Mia moves to kneel under the booth and says, "You are Dobby?"
"Yes, Miss. Dobby the house elf," he says, nodding.
Her eyes go wide, but not quite as wide as Dobby's, and she continues with, "You are a house elf....? Do you serve a family?"
"Yes, Miss."
She was about to ask who, but she sees his hands and takes a look, murmuring, "Oh poor thing. Here, let me help you take care of your hands."
"Dobby will only be punished agains, Miss."
"Dobby, I'm going to take care of your hands," she says firmly, but kindly.
And Dobby doesn't know why yet, but he finds himself saying, "Yes, Miss."
