Franklin knows Fields is staring at him.

Furthermore, girls are (as a rule) never interested in him romantically, which means she thinks he's either insane or interesting. As he makes a point not to be interesting, she must think he's insane.

...And what is up with her music? Tripped out. She's probably high.

All these things are what make Franklin stare back at her with a mildly affronted look.

Her eyebrows rise slightly at the expression he has on her face, and after a moment's consideration, she offers him a smile and a quick wave.

She probably isn't improving her situation at all.

He gives her an incredibly half-hearted finger lift in return.

"You know, you could try to be a little more enthusiastic."

"What would be the point in that?"

"Common etiquette, for one."

"Common etiquette is acknowledging your presence. Anything else is extraordinary etiquette."

Franklin hmphs and looks away pointedly.

He is not interesting, dammit.

At which point she picks up her things and goes to sit at his table.
