Charles Xavier - XMFC continuity - that bar

Jul 18, 2011 15:58

Finding the bar at the end of the universe instead of his study is more often than not something that he's glad for, because it means that he has been pulled from the bonds of conventional time and plopped squarely someplace where he can do whatever he'd like for however long he'd like without anyone back home paying the consequences even a little ( Read more... )

A wheelchair. Not unheard of in his time, of course, but usually only as a stopgap. Which could imply something about when the man in the chair is from.

"Good afternoon." It was afternoon on the ship. And still will be later, right?

"Good afternoon."

Though as Charles turns to look at the man, he has to keep himself from blinking. There... but not there. How very strange.

"Can I ask when you're from. I don't see many wheelchairs in my day." Blunt, as always.

He has gotten past reflexive discomfort when the chair is mentioned. Now he just nods.

"1962. And yourself?"

"Mid-24th century." 1962...yes, that seems right. "I can't tell you too much about our surgical procedures and therapies, but I...we...can cure nearly anything." Modest as he is subtle.

"That's certainly good to hear," he says brightly enough.

"I can't say I recommend my current status, though it has given me some perspective on certain matters."

"Such as what? I've been told that sometimes, a change of physical status lets you understand more." Though don't ask him about the time he gave himself a virtual cold, and Kes made sure it stayed a horrifying extra hour.

"Just how privileged I was in certain matters," though he has no desire to go into things more thoroughly. He's still adjusting, and his 'brightside' is frail.

"Though what you've been told is very true. You realize how many things you could do much more easily because you're only a couple of feet higher. Because your center of gravity is positioned differently. That sort of thing."

"How long ago? And what happened?" He wonders if he could adjust his height and weight. And decides that would be asking for trouble.

"Some weeks ago," he admits carefully, "and I was... a projectile struck me in the spine."

"I'm sorry." Gun violence. So typical of the time.

"I should introduce myself. I am the Doctor." He extends his hand downwards.

"Charles Xavier," he says before reaching for the hand.

"'The' Doctor?"

"I've never quite found a name that suits me. So I just stick with 'the Doctor.'" Pause. "It was either that or 'Emergency Medical Hologram.'"

Charles lets out a puff of breath in relief.

"So that's it. You're a hologram!"

"Er, yes?

"What's it?"

He shakes his hand, dismissing the whole thing.

"My apologies. It would be hard to explain. Suffice to say, you have answered quite a few questions for me. And produced a few as well. A medical hologram?"
