I sat at the kitchen table with a cup of tea in hand, watching Connor raid the fridge in typical teenage fashion. I had gotten so used to having him around...and so used to not having Angel around. I felt a knot in my stomach when I remembered Angel. I'd forget about our endless search sometimes, and then suddenly remember. It isn't a pleasant feeling, having his disappearance and Cordy's disappearance hanging over our heads like this. All I want is to have them back safe and sound. But I have no idea where either of them is, and that frustrates me more than I can say. Charles and I have been doing our best, but it seems like all our leads run down into the ground.
I took a sip of tea as Connor continued to open drawers and check shelves in the fridge, and I glanced at the faded wallpaper in the kitchen. The hotel was nice for the most part, and we had fixed up the main rooms well, but there still seemed to be a few things here and there that just weren't up to par. "Maybe we can take that wallpaper down and put a coat of paint on one of these days," I said, more to myself than to Connor. Today we were taking the day off, but I couldn't help feeling guilty about it. Angel and Cordelia were out there somewhere, I knew they had to be, and we were taking a day off? But there wasn't much else we could do at the time. All our leads turned into dead ends and all of us had run out of ideas.
I couldn't help but feel bad for Connor. The poor kid's dad was missing and we had almost no chance of finding him anytime soon. He still maintained a healthy teenage appetite, though. I smiled as I took another sip of tea. It's nice having him around. Sure, he worries us a lot, and is constantly challenging Charles' authority, but I think it keeps him on his toes to have a kid in the house. It makes me nervous when he goes along with us as we're chasing leads, but I know that nothing either of us can say will stop him. The kid is nonstop energy.
"Hey Connor," I said, setting down my cup of tea. "Got any plans for the day?"
