trudging

Must be a January thing.  I'm noticing several of my friends are struggling this month to get stuff done.  I'm one of them.  Spent most of last night blowing green yuck out of my nose, so cancelled my hair appointment for today.  Unfortunately, I used the wrong messenger and she didn't get it until after my appointment.  :-(

Had the plumber open up the ceiling downstairs, and it's about what I expected, plus some.  It's my tub/shower that's causing the problems.  In addition to the regular leakiness of the shower door (which has caused some nasty rot), the overflow valve is no longer working, and I need a new one.  The plumber asked if I was planning a remodel soon, because with this much work to be done it might be easier (on me) to just go ahead and get it all done.  Since it was at the top of my list anyway, I've now called the contractor he recommended and hopefully they will get back to me early next week.  I trust this plumber.  Not only is he the father of one of Ian's friends, my neighbor used him and she liked his work.  She has extremely high standards for workmen, so I know if she was happy with him, he will do good work.  Fortunately, the main bathroom (Ian's bathroom) is fine, although I may grab some caulk this weekend and run it around the tub just to be sure.

I also finally put my budget for this year together.  It looks pretty do-able.  And it is nice to have it on something besides a scrap of paper.  I'm sure I'm leaving something out - it's been years since I made a regular budget, but with no mortgage, no car payments, and no credit card payments, it's a pretty simple budget.  The phone stuff makes me mad, it is so expensive and it doesn't need to be.  I am trying to drop one of our lines (dedicated fax line), since it's no longer needed, but after what I went through with AT&T with the cell phones, I'm not sure I want to try just yet.

And I need to do the income taxes.  ugh.  Still trying to gather everything together - it is completely scattered through the house. But that will have to be another day.
