Chapter 4
We arrived at the apartment. Yuko still paid for the rent so I went in. It would be on the third floor which made walking a bit rough. I didn't want to use the elevator. 394, was the number on the door. I opened the door, nothing really changed except the place was cleaner. I knew that even though they clean up, there is always something left behind. I took out my laptop & pulled up the pictures Yuko sent. Slowly I mapped out the crime scene. I took pictures & studied the place where the victim was found,with a knife in her chest. She died Juliet style, but given her height, the knife is too high. Naturally it would be lower so you could get more force. It would be hard to puncture your own chest bone. In the picture, she was lying by the couch. I zoom in on the picture. She is pointing at something. A dying message!!
I bent down to look under the couch, which hurt like crazy, but I saw some blood splatter & something shiny. I grabbed a tissue & pulled it out. It was a token of some sort. I pocketed it for later. I'll have to see if Ueda knows anything about it. Lost in my thoughts, my phone ringing startled me.
'hello, wait slow down. What's wrong?' it was Maru. He sounded frantic. The line went dead. I picked up my stuff & was ready to leave. I looked out the window. The car seemed fine, so why.. I was about to return when I heard heavy footsteps coming up the stairs. Three stories, I decided to take my chances. I hid behind the door & when they entered I ran out.
A chased insured & I was at a huge disadvantage with my backpack & sore body. However, I had no choice but to run. They were close. I didn't have time to jump in the car. Seeing that Maru was fine I ran past the car.
