Yeah, I finally beat Abyss. i actually beat it on Sunday, but I was clearly too emotional about it to post about it until today. (Obviously it's not because I forgot. Don't be silly.)
I spent pretty much all afternoon playing it, and most of the evening. AAAAH AT THE TIME OF FAREWELL CAME ON AS I'M TYPING THIS. I'm sorry, but At the Time of Farewell (the first Van battle theme) sounds so much more final boss than Time to Raise the Cross or the second one. Or the third one. Or the grand fonic hymn, not that that was really a battle.
Then again I am a Sakuraba whore. Sakuraba is the sole reason I thought I would maybe try Baten Kaitos. BUT YEAH.
5 times when Caitie cried
1. When Asch died (I HATE IT WHEN ASCH MAKES ME FEEL BAD FOR HIM)
2. When Van died
3. When Luke was going to stay back and probably DIE, but after everyone was like "COME BACK ALIVE" I was like, "Oh, he won't die then"
4. When the credits ran and it hit me that it was REALLY OVER
5. When Luke's grave was mentioned and I was like "WHAT NO"
5 times when Caitie laughed
1. When I realized Asch and Luke were fighting over who got to stay behind. GUYS, YOUR FIGHTS NEVER MAKE ANY SENSE EVER. YOU ARE BOTH IDIOTS.
2. The 10 second zoom-in shot of the fireplace Guy hid in. OK,WE GET IT.
3. ASCH IS INSIDE YOU LUKE
4. When corpse!Asch fell into Luke's arms. HE FELL FUNNY OK AND THEN HE WENT BONK INTO THE FORCEFIELD.
5. Maddy's comment after watching the anime cutscene of Asch's death, "Asch, you have something on your shirt"

1. KNIGHT GUY, YOU ALREADY STABBED ASCH, YOU DON'T NEED TO REAPPLY FORCE TO GET YOUR SWORD ALL THE WAY THROUGH, I DID NOT NEED TO HEAR THAT SOUND EFFECT.

2. JADE TELLING NATALIA WHATS WHAT, AND THEN TELLING VAN WHATS WHAT, EVEN THOUGH IT REVEALED THAT HIS EYES ARE FUCKING CREEPY. EXCEPT THEN kekahe TOLD ME THEY'RE LIKE THAT B/C HE USED A FONIC ARTE ON THEM SO HE COULD SEE BETTER, WHICH IS AWESOME.
3. the epic puzzle to get to Yulia's grave, which led to me learning (from kekahe ) that the L1 and R1 buttons allow you to turn REALLY PRECISELY. I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL THEN.

That basically sumarizes my thoughts on the end of the game. I might say something about Asch later because despite my best efforts I'm beginning to like him. orz
So I lent out Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia monday. So now the only excuse I have to not play Tales of Vesperia is Persona 4. I've decided my goal is to finish it by the end of the year.
