Action Comics #886.  Writers:  Greg Rucka and Eric Trautmann;  Artists:  Fernando Dagnino and Raul Fernandez

Action Comics, starring Thara Ak-Var as Flamebird and Lor-Zod (Chris Kent) as Nightwing, is nowhere near as fun a read as Rucka's other work on Detective Comics, but I still like reading it because there are gems of information about ( Read more... )

I'm spending the weekend in my friend's house in Duluth, and she looked over at my laptop and saw the Nightwing/Flamebird pr0n and said "that's pretty, is that Batman and Superman?" I was all "yes, yes it is." *G*

Yes. Oh, it most certainly is, lol. I'm going to use these scans in ways most certainly not intended by Rucka someday. :)

Do I just have a dirty mind? Or did that crystal look seriously phallic to anyone else...?

Particularly this pic.

I was going to make the exact same comment. More or less.

Mine was going to be 'Mythology: awesome, but HOLY CRAP that crystal looks like a sex toy.'

No, it's not just you. There was much discussion on scans_daily about the Kryptonian crystal sex toy.

One day, someone's going to have to just tell the Kryptonians that all their technology looks like sex toys, more or less.

You know, I'm kind of impressed by how legitimate this bit of Kryptonian religion seems, all things considered. It doesn't feel out of place put up against the mythologies of Earth.

Aw, Bruce and Clark Nightwing and Flamebird, how--ahh! Chris! Shield your eyes! I still think of you as 12, and primordial dragon sex is not something you should be seeing!

Man, you weren't kidding, Vohc's story fits Lex so well it's scary. I feel like he does that internal monologue everytime he sees Clark and Bruce, with possibly some ranting about bats thrown in.

And then Chris and Thara have sex and OMG, noooo... D: DO NOT WANT

Yeah, I thought it was very nicely put together as well! It felt mythological but not too derivative of any specific Earth story...

I know, I...glurk, DC is trying very hard to "set" his age at about 18, and it is not working for me, which makes Thara just very creepy. Nightwing/Flamebird deserve a less creepy set of avatars!

Vohc's rage at the Flamebird destroying what he's built is uncannily Lexian. He's...even bald, lol. :)

I wonder how they're going to tie this with the Kryptonian Nightwing legend that Clark told Dick (The one about a man who was cast away from his home and then decided to fight crime or something).

And Vohc so screams Lex Luthor to Clark's Flamebird!

And then Chris and Thara have sex and OMG, noooo... *winces and stops reading there*

Well there goes all of my hopes about Chris going back to being a kid! (who BTW was read stories by Lois before he went to bedtime so that should give you some indication of how old he was) I mean WTF this is all sorts of creepy and weeeeeiiiiird.

Also Thara is a very dull character to me, she has no personality whatsoever outside being the avatar of Flamebird. I really wished they would have played her role as Jor-El and Allura's daughter more especially if she would have turned out to be Superwoman because unlike Lucy Lane (who was a good character before they turned her to a murdering evil daddy's lil girl) Thara is an El by adoption so she has the right to the S :).

It'll be interesting to see if they ever mention that. I believe the Action Annual says that there have been many, many incarnations of the two...and that they always, always end in tragedy.

Thara...boy, I really wanted to like her, but if you want to make a religious person sympathetic and not creepy you do NOT have her tell a small child (I don't care how old he is physically, he's only lived about eight years, and most of those in the Phantom Zone!) that he has to have sex with her because he's a god reborn. I honestly can't believe DC isn't getting complaints about this, it actually upsets me a lot. I have no idea why Rucka is going there, ugh.

It’s been only one week off and I’m still so behind with... everything! *sigh*

You was right about the „nowhere near as fun a read“. Still, I really liked the story! And YAY for your mention of „ideas for fic“. I’m looking forward to reading fics with the ideas. :)

And your casting Clark, Bruce and Lex in the three roles - I think it was quite fitting!

Book of Rao - Seeing this I was like - WOW, because we can hear quite often about it on Smallville this season - It's part of a storyline with Clark and Zod. :) (I love how nicely are crossed my favorite show and comics lately. :))

Thanks for the scans. :)

Oh, more Smallville-comics crossover! That's always cool! And yeah, oh, I got some very nice ideas for fic based on these scans. Don't Clark, Lex, and Bruce just seem to fit so well? *bounces*
