It's been pretty quiet on LJ today. Yesterday was a fiesta and a half, it seemed like the posts and comments just wouldn't stop coming! I was kind of looking forward to people visiting my journal after I was featured in The Steampunk Home, but it hasn't seemed to have happened yet. I mean I don't think my caddies are the Second Coming of Awesome or anything, especially not in light of magnificence like the creations of Datamancer and Jake Von Slatt and all the other brilliant artists and crafters, but I did make a real effort there. Ah well. Like Batman's Dad says, We fall so we learn to pick ourselves up.
Tonight we're going to a potluck at a friend-of-a-friend's. I'm making my Rosemary Spinach Potato Cakes, since I have all the stuff at home and need to use the rosemary before it gets all black and slimy. Unfortunately my own Rosemary plant has withered away to nothing. I repotted and fertilized it, and carefully monitored its soil saturation, but alas. The little guy just didn't make it. I grew him from SEEDS! At the old apartment and I germinated him and planted and watered and fertilized and even a few times cut sprigs to use in cooking. I'm sure my own howling grief is only a sliver compared to what someone would feel, say, if they were a subsistence farmer in a nation with a large rural population and their goat died, thus reducing them to a life without cheese, milk, transporation (it might've pulled a small cart full of goods to sell at market or something) and a guard animal (goats can be fiercely territorial) and even that thing where they lay down wheat and goats walk on it to knock the grains from the chaff, but still. I at least know where that person might be coming from.
Everything else is doing very well, in fact the yellow bell pepper came back harder and bigger than Elvis in a black jumpsuit. I suspect cleaning off the aphids and scale insects helped.
We might--MIGHT!--be seeing either 3:10 to Yuma or Shoot 'Em Up tomorrow. MIGHT! We'll have to see what's left over after the bills are paid. Once we get everything paid this month we'll FINALLY be caught up on everything; some of them had been 'neglected' and are two or three times their usual amount. I look forward to the 21st, which'll be the first paycheck Nathan's gotten that isn't scheduled to go entirely to bills. AND THAT IS ALL THE GURNING I WILL DO ABOUT BILLS!
I can't wait to see one or the other of the movies. Apparently there's a gunfight scene in Shoot 'Em Up where Clive Owen's character is interrupted during sex, only he isn't really interrupted because HE CONTINUES HIS COITUS WHILE ENGAGING IN A GUNFIGHT. It's either the death of good cinema or a rebirth. Or both!
And Yuma has Christian Bale--WITH A PEGLEG! That's right, he was wounded in the War of Northern Aggression (as the southern states refer to the Civil War) and has a pegleg. Awesome. He's played a cowboy and Batman. Now he just needs to play a pirate and Conan the Barbarian and the hero quartet of my childhood will be complete.
No big plans for the weekend. Besides working on more creative projects.
