003; action

[Ever since Sophie's abduction, Hubert's been more quiet than usual. While there had been signs of a struggle, he can't help but think she might've gone with the droids after he'd filled her head with ideas of talking to the Malnosso. He knows the experience is going to be unpleasant for her even if she might get that chance, and that sure ( Read more... )

Anything I can help with?

[When Hubert looks up from the table, he'll probably notice Giles leaning against the nearest shelf and watching him. He came in a second too late to hear the question, but it's clear that Hubert is very deeply engrossed in something.]

[Hubert whips his head in Giles' direction, and while he knows he can probably ask the man a thing or two about non-library matters (because he assumes that's what Giles meant), his natural suspicion of people puts down the plan before it's realized.

He turns his head back to the front and crosses his arms.]

No, I was . . . only thinking.

I could gather that much. I was just curious as to what you were thinking about.

I can generally point people in the right direction, where books are concerned.

[Books . . . ]

I understands most records of Luceti's history are in the school library. Is there anything you find to be of particulate note on that subject here?

...I've read up quite extensively on the first invasion of the Third Party and the remarkably odd events surrounding it.

I had to, since it was before my time here.

Remarkably odd?

...were you around for the experiment a few months ago where, um, everyone thought they'd lived different lives?

...among other things, yes. The one with families.

Well, a similar experiment preceded a major catastrophe in this village a little over a year ago. Just...far less organized.

I have been in Luceti for over half a year, so I hadn't realized.

But the first invasion took place on the second year of the cycle. It's past the fourth year from what I understand. Unless the Third Party had a part in that "catastrophe."

I'm not sure what contributed to that, actually. And my friends who were here at the time aren't terribly certain, either.

...far more simply, I've never gotten the hang of Luceti's calendar.

Sorry.

. . . It's fine.

Luceti's time runs separately from that of our respective worlds. Admittedly, adjusting to that change and adapting to it is . . . rather difficult.

I knew that bit, at least. Time passing here and not passing back here. In my case, at least, I can testify to its truth.

But the new year here starts about two months before it did back home. That has been an adjustment.
