[Ever since Sophie's abduction, Hubert's been more quiet than usual. While there had been signs of a struggle, he can't help but think she might've gone with the droids after he'd filled her head with ideas of talking to the Malnosso. He knows the experience is going to be unpleasant for her even if she might get that chance, and that sure possibility bothers him a great deal.
Which is why, after days of cooping himself up in his room to both think this over and let the awkwardness settle from the last event, Hubert goes to the barracks for some much needed fresh air and anxiety relief. There, he'll practice his form and skills, taking a few swings with his swallow-like weapon before separating it into a pair of guns; then he starts on his footwork. He'll switch off on the two styles for as long as he's in the barracks, only pausing now and then to catch his breath. Even with his participation in the last draft, he's out of shape.
After that in the mid-afternoon, he takes a break and heads to the library. An onslaught of distracting thoughts upsets his casual reading, and he sets the book (The Book of Three of The Chronicles of Prydain) aside before long. Eyes closed, he leans against the chair and squeezes the bridge of his nose just under the rim of his glasses to clear a headache.
It's quiet but he's not at peace. Straightening, he stares long and hard at the table before him. The abduction, the last event, the draft, the cargo, Region Six . . . ]
