jittery photo girl

I am rather nervous about having changed my major. It's typical of me to do all the worrying and consideration and reconsideration after my whatever has been done.

Just in case you missed my whimsical inclination to wax poetic about a camera, then write one line about My Life, I changed my major from graphic design to digital photography. When I ( Read more... )

If you'd need a new digital, ask me first. I can cut you good deal, maybe even get you a dealer's price on it.

Florida: "I listen to both kinds of music, rap AND R&B!"
Ohio: "I listen to both kinds of music, country AND western!"

i know hwo u feel because i just changed my major for the first time after studying chemical engineering for 4 years and being on the verge of finishing i am now doing chemistry instead... it was a very sudden decision on my part too but i am very happy with it... im sure you will see throughout the next few months and yrs.. hwo great it is that you have your new major. and overall, i think in your field it is more important the work you produce vs what it says in your diploma. im sure your portfolio will mirror what youre good at and what u will want to work with in your future... other than training doggies :) (im sure your doggies will vouch for that one)

just dont worry :)

A scan of a 35mm slide will produce a better picture than any digital camera. If your class doesn't accept that, something pretty odd is going on.

That said, you can bump a D70 up to ISO 1600 without loosing quality. That would be useful. :)

If I can make money with photos, my next buy is going to be a used Crown Graphic 4x5. They go for $US300 on ebay with lens + case. Mmm, 4x5 and movements.

Question about Nikon manual cameras, is it a bad thing to leave the film + shutter wound on, ready to take a picture? I'm just not sure how easy it is to wear out the springs...

Ah, you make me feel justified in sticking to my analog. It is all about the quality. (And the gears, and the metal, and the glass, and the smooth side of the film.)

That Crown Graphic is awesome. How big is it when everything is folded up?

I usually leave my Nikkormat wound-on, though I probably shouldn't--mine doesn't have a lock on the shutter button. The thing I'm picky about with her is to be sure the advance arm is flush against the body; pulling that back a quarter-inch will activate the light meter. I kill so many batteries...

It's tiny! By tiny, I mean easily twice the size of my FM3A + 50mm lens, but for a view camera it's incredible. It's what was carried by press agents back when they carried such crazy contraptions, but it can do all the important movements and take all the important lenses. I am definitely going to get one, one way or another ( ... )

If you get hold of a Crown, spend a night being Weegee. Take it out on hot summer nights after sitting around with the windows open, listening to the police scanner with a cigar and a glass of whisky.
