A branch fell on our power line Thursday, but since its weight is being supported by our garage, the lines aren't damaged. Yet. A hard wind could make it fall and take out both our power and that of a neighbor. ComEd has, after promising to come take care of it but not coming to take care of it for days, actually sent a person who appears to be some sort of scout to come tell me they will be here today, but that they don't haul the branches once they're off the power line.
Will they actually come today? Who knows? Tune in later this week for the next installment of, "Do We Still Have Power? When Will ComEd Take Care Of This?"
Also delayed are my apple strudel plans. Before the month is out, I will have made some from scratch. I didn't make it last year, but I did the year before, and it was *delicious.* It would be absolutely criminal to go a second year without it.
My calendar of events also includes pumpkin carving with the parrots and roasting the seeds with...uh, myself. No parrots in the kitchen when the oven is being used!
Funny story: I do crossword puzzles on the train lately because I seem to get to a really good part of my book JUST when I get to my stop, which drives me crazy. I usually get a puzzle done just before I get to my stop if I start it right away when I get on the train and there are no delays. So! Recently there was a puzzle with "to subdue" as a down clue and "one of Santa's reindeer" for the across clue. I had all the surrounding words filled in within a shadow of a doubt, so that I had "ta_e" down and "co_et" across. Well, I can't remember half the reindeer but was positive that the down word was "taze," as in, "to subdue with a tazer." That meant, however, that one of Santa's reindeer is named Cozet. I thought, "What the hell, is this some kind of French reindeer or something?" I puzzled over this for a few days and eventually realized that the correct answers were "tame" and "comet." D'oh.
