About 8000 miles ago, I had my 75000 mile oil change and the rear brakes done and the dealership I went to took it upon themselves to find other stuff that "needed to be fixed." Much of it sounded like a load of bollocks (i.e. a "loose" cap on something that needed to be replaceed - is it just me or does tightening it sound like a decent fix for this?), so I didn't bother with it. However, I did take note of the fact that they thought my rear shocks were pretty well worn and I should get them replaced.
Starting a couple of weeks ago now (read: a month ago at least - sometime around when I was driving through a pothole-filled dirt parking lot at KRF), I noticed that I could hear something clunking that sounded oddly like parts of a suspension system when I hit a bump. As the suspension is more of a nicety than a necessity, I didn't bother with it... until yesterday when I finally figured I'd call to try to price it out. So I called and was told that the worst case scenario was about $2000. Eeep. I managed to get an appointment for this morning but had to be in Peabody by 7 a.m., which meant waking up at 5. Ouch.
Once they looked it over, they told me it would be about $1000... at which point I called Daddy and asked for an early birthday present. So he said he'd pay half and I would pay half and that's fine. After I told the dealership this, got a free rental car, and got to work, I realized that I have a coupon for 20% all parts and service until December 16th. So now the service is only costing me $800 or so... and Dad is still giving me $500 or so. I love family!
Can't wait to have my car back though - and with a smoother ride!
