What is wrong with Toys R Us?
Hi there, as some of you know I'm the communications officer for the local sci fi Trek group in the Atlanta area. Over the past 12 years the Klingons have supported the Marines in Toys for Tots. We have pretty much always worked with the local Toys R Us, people love watching Klingons and sometimes even the Stormtroopers wish them a happy holidays and ask for donations. We are there every Sat. all day and collect between 200-400 toys for the kids everytime we are out there.
For the past couple of years we have had trouble with the corporate offices of Toys R Us. They for some reason which they do not divulge to us they do not want to support Toys for Tots. The local managers want us out there, it not only promotes their store, but also helps out much needed children. Last year the Manager at the Barrett Parkway Toys R Us let us for the first time in two years come back and we had a stellar year. We started again this year, but last Thursday as a last minute decision, he was told by the corporate office that we were not welcome back. No reason was given. We had left a Toys for Tots box there, but it had been pushed aside and only 30 toys were in it.
The Marines tell us that we are woefully short this year in collecting toys. So my question is What is wrong with Toys R Us? You would think Toys R Us in conjunction with Toys for Tots would be a symbiotic relationship. I know that Toys R Us will work with some radio stations for like a day. We are out there every weekend. So either for some political reason they wont support the Marines or they don't like the sci fi community. Either way, what kind of excuse can a corporation give for not helping out needy kids? Especially when we make them money?
Our group will be out at the Mattress King at Barrett Parkway on Saturday from noon to 6pm. It's right across from the Toys R Us. We are begging you to let your people in all areas know that we are out there and that the kids are in need of toys.
