Lately I'm getting the impression I may have some monitor calibration issues. I could launch into a lengthy explanation here of why I believe so, but I'll spare you the details (until you ask for them, anyway). Suffice it to say I'm aware that things aren't quite as they should be and that I'm now trying to determine how bad the situation is. ( Read more... )

Wow, that's detailed! Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your taking the time for this!

Judging from your answers to questions 1 and 3, your monitor has a bit of a red cast, at least when compared to mine and that of the two others who've responded so far. That would also explain why you think the toning in the bridge photo is violet, which it definitely isn't on my screen. Interesting. I look forward to seeing how others feel about that...

The lack of detail in the first image is partly due to the fact that it was shot on a Holga, and partly because it was cross-processed. I'd say the latter is probably the greatest culprit. Cross-processing tends to blow out a lot of detail in the highlights.

I agree with you on the trees-in-the-mist photo. The trees at the very bottom looked good (i.e., light) to me when I was editing the photo, but now that I've recalibrated my screen somewhat, they look too dark. I guess many people only got to see them like that. Pity.

As for the lonely-tree picture at the end, I was actually going for a fully saturated image with lots of bright yellow and orange details on the ground. It definitely looked like that when I was editing the photo. Now that I've recalibrated my monitor, the picture looks rather drab, and all the yellow seems to have vanished.

I guess the main conclusion so far is that my screen was too yellow and too light when I edited these photos. It's a pity, but I'm glad I seem to be getting it right now...

Again, thanks for your detailed input. Much appreciated!
