Contrast

Six Madeiran extremes...

The village of Santana is famous for its triangular houses. As you can see, even the toolsheds are in style.

I tried to clone out the power line. It went well enough in the right-hand half of the photo, but the left-hand half proved beyond me. So I ended up leaving the cable in. Alas.

extraordinary!! they are great.

i like powerlines in nature pictures. they are already a part of the landscape for me :)

the story about the "valley of the nuns" is very interesting. it seems incredible something can be concealed for such a long time.
your picture of it is wonderful. i love it!!

i like a lot the colours in this series. the 3rd one is so beautiful <3

i'd love going to madeira. *sighs* i'll have to put it in the wish box for some time (decades??)... *sighs* my wish box is too full T___T

Thank you! I'm glad you like these. I wasn't sure whether I should put them together, since they have little in common other than the fact they were all taken on the same island, but I came to the conclusion that contrast was enough reason to lump them together. :-)

You like power lines in nature photos? Hmmm. I like them in some situations, where they're the subject of the photo, but in this particular case, I really could have done without the line. I wanted a pure, old-fashioned photo, without reminders of the modern era. But alas, modernity enforced its presence on the scene, as it has a nasty habit of doing.

Madeira is beautiful, and considerably closer to where you live than where I live. You could probably hop on a cruise ship and get there soon enough. Specialise in portraits of elderly people, become a photographer on board a cruise ship and you'll get your trips to the other islands for free. Sounds like a plan to me! :-)

i remember that months & months ago you had a picture from china (i think) with some power lines and you also said you rather had them out.

in this case the power line is not as fortunate as in others. yet, i can't imagine a rural landscape without those ghetto power poles & crazy connections.

True, but I can still wish they weren't there, right? I guess I'm an aesthete and idealist at heart, rather than a realist.

I take it that by "oriental dance skills" you mean ninja skills, and I'm guessing "flute" is Fuerteventuran for "ninja star", although the etymology of the word somewhat escapes me.

You know, I could do with a porter with ninja skills. As long as he/she promises never to use those skills against me, that is.

^__^ yeshhh, ninja skills are very versatile, though they are still powerless against certain foes: the day of shame

T__T ... it was awful!

Power lines rule!

I have to admit, though, that I've never given power lines in nature pics all too much thought. Hmmm.
