and i’m still in love (but all i heard was nothing)

Jaejoong was a fairly simple-minded man, really. Its contrary to the popular belief that he’s so complicated that he turns simple things to intricate ones and vice versa, but really, he doesn’t.

When he walks out on you, you just have to run after him and hold him back.

When he cries after you tell him that his food doesn’t taste good, all you have to do is to apologize and finish your portion.

All in all, Jaejoong is easy and not hard to please.

“Did you hear about it?” Junsu asks Yoochun when the eldest was passing by the kitchen. It was uttered in a mere whisper and Jaejoong has to strain his ears just to hear. Jaejoong couldn’t help but think that they were trying to keep a secret or whatnot and this reason alone made him even more curious as to what the pair’s conversation was all about. He really doesn’t consider this as being nosy though, but ever since the whole lawsuit fiasco, his mindset seems to tell him that he has to know everything about the other two.

“Hear about what?” Yoochun asks in between mouthfuls of last night’s dukbokki. Junsu glares at him, mouthing a silent ‘you’re too loud!’ at the older one before letting out a distressed sigh. “Its confirmed that Yunho-hyung’s going to star in that new variety show that’s an improved version of We Got Married or something like that.” Junsu whispers, his voice growing quieter with each words. “Oh. He’s going to be the emcee?”

Junsu rolls his eyes in a good-nature way before smacking the back of the other’s head, almost making Yoochun choke out the food he was chewing on. “No. He’s one of the couples there… with Go Ara.”

This time, Yoochun chokes out all the food he was chewing on the counter top.

Jaejoong’s mind goes blank as he accidentally drops his phone (iPhone 4, mind you) unceremoniously on the ground, creating a loud thud that doesn’t go unnoticed by the two younger members.

They turn their eyes to stare at the eldest in shock, knowing all too well that the other heard their conversation.

Yunho and Jaejoong never really had a clear break. They weren’t even sure if they’re still dating up to now, both too scared and prideful to pick up their phone and call the other, knowing that talking with each other would only spark another heated argument between the two of them. Their cold war starts when the news of Yunho and Ara dating roams around the business. The pictures, fan reports and evidences that involved Yunho and Ara together at a whole lot of events (parties, press conferences, weddings, concerts) did nothing to calm the green monster of jealousy inside Jaejoong.

The last time they saw each other was at Heechul’s birthday party and instead of making up and whatnot, they decided to ruin the party by landing into a full-blown fistfight with each other, only to be stopped short when the three other members (and a few other guys from Super Junior - Donghae, Heechul, Leeteuk and Siwon) came in between them and pulled them away from each other before it could get any worse. The celebrant was furious, mostly because Yunho’s fist, which was originally aiming for Jaejoong’s jaw, managed to stray away and hit Heechul’s cheek instead so the victim decided to sock the both of them in the gut and that seemed to wake the couple. (Both Yunho and Jaejoong didn’t expect Heechul to pack quite a punch)

“The two of you! Stop acting like barbarians and settle this feud peacefully where no one would be disturbed! You’re ruining the atmosphere, you idiots! You’re not a bunch of twelve year old boys who don’t know the essence of self-preservation and control!” Heechul bellowed angrily.

Sure, Yunho and Jaejoong have seen Heechul get mad and whatnot (the latter had quite the temper) but never to this extent, and yeah, it scared them.

“He started it-“ Yunho started but was cut short when Heechul’s glare dug into his core, wounding him .

“I don’t care who started it or what ignited this fight of yours, but I expect the both of you out of my door if you do not act like civilized people and start another brawl again. This is my party and my celebration so if the two of you decide to ruin it one more time, I will kick you out, do you understand that?”

“You don’t have to worry about that, Heechul-hyung. I’m out.” Jaejoong replies.

He shakes off all the hands that were holding him back from lunging at Yunho and glares at the latter for the last time before walking out of the house.

“You come back here, Kim Jaejoong! We are not yet finished!” Yunho starts and was about to run after Jaejoong (probably to start another fight or something) but was held back by the others.

“Yunho!” Heechul hisses in warning.

“You mean he didn’t tell you?” Yoochun asks Jaejoong with wide eyes and a dramatic gasp and Jaejoong couldn’t tell if the other was being sarcastic or not. “Would I be acting like this if he told me about it?” Jaejoong counters him, his tone growing sharper and scarier by the minute.

“But aren’t you guys like, together-together?” Junsu questions him carefully. He knows that if he doesn’t choose his words carefully, the eldest would break into a fit and that’s the last thing he wants to happen right now.

“I don’t know, Junsu, I don’t know. He never called. I never called either. The last time we talked was at Heechul’s party and you were a witness to how much of a disaster it was.” Jaejoong tells them honestly, staring forlornly at the picture hanging on the wall (Dong Bang Shin Ki’s first ever picture together).

“Do you still love him?” Yoochun asks him gently.

Jaejoong looks at him like he had grown two heads or something.

“Of course I do! Even after all the shit we have gone through, I love him and that’s a fact. I can’t fall out of love with him just because of a fight. My love for him isn’t that shallow, and I know that you know what I mean. The two of you are witnesses to that, and so are Changmin and the rest of our friends. Its just that, I’m starting to doubt our relationship… Not him or his love for me… just the strength of our connection.”

Yoochun and Junsu sigh in unison. “Hyung, if you really do love Yunho-hyung, you’d throw away all your uncertainty and pride and make that goddamn phone call, okay? Better yet, why don’t you show up at his door step and surprise him.” Yoochun advises.

“And risk getting socked in the face? Hell no.”

“You know Yunho-hyung won’t do that anymore. I’m sure he misses you as much as you miss him. Its best if you clear this one out before that woman really tries to move into the picture, hyung.” Junsu tells him.

“I know, I know. I - I’ll call him tonight. Yes, tonight.”

Jaejoong keeps his promise. He calls Yunho later that night, all fidgety and nervous.

It takes a lot of courage to reply after Yunho’s voice reverberates from across the line, but he manages to do it - unsure and edgy.

“I miss you and I know that you probably doubt my words right now. Please don’t hang up on me - I know you and I know that you’re contemplating on pressing the end button at the very moment because you’re still mad at me.”

Jaejoong pauses.

Yunho’s silence was a proof to show that Jaejoong just hit the nail.

“…But at least have the heart to listen to what I have to say before you put down the phone.”

“I love you, I really do. We argue, we fight, we shout at each other, we have fistfights, we have cold wars, but despite all the flaws in our relationship, I still love you. For me, everything we have gone through is nothing but obstacles that make our relationship stronger, but I don’t know what you think about it. I have no idea how you perceive it because you never really tell me anything and I’m not blessed with mind reading abilities.”

“I can’t deny the fact that the lawsuit had caused quite a strain in our relationship even if we promised that it wouldn’t change anything between us. This is all new to me, Yunho - that you have to understand. I have never been against you and now, we’re being pulled away from each other and the two of us are suddenly at the opposite ends of the playing field - with Junsu and Yoochun on my side, Changmin, SM and the whole showbiz industry on yours. It was quite overwhelming for me. I regretted leaving your side, yes, but never did I regret leaving SM. I never forced you to leave the company with me for I know that your majority of your loyalty isn’t pledged to me but to SM itself. I understood that, really, I did, and I trusted you enough to think that it wouldn’t ruin our relationship. Was I wrong, Yunho-yah? Am I about to regret the decision I made a few years ago? Must I have stayed with you?”

He took Yunho’s silence as an indication to continue his confession.

“Yunho, you can’t blame me for feeling jealous. We hardly see each other, heck, we don’t talk much on the phone either even before the whole Ara-disaster happened. I never accused you of cheating, I’m not even accusing you now. All I wanted was for you to clear out all those rumors - not in front of the press but just in front of me. I just wanted you to reassure me that the rumors weren’t real, even if I don’t believe them, because you have no idea how much it breaks my heart when I see articles and pictures of you with Ara. She’s your leading lady, yes, I know, but please, Yunho-yah, I love you and the only rational thing I can think of doing is ask you about it. I didn’t expect you to blow up at me. I didn’t expect you to throw a punch. I wasn’t hurt about that - but I was hurt to see that you didn’t even bother denying it. Your actions only lead me to assume that what I heard was real and that was what made me angry.”

“I don’t know if you’re really with Ara or not. I won’t lie and say that I’m not hurt after finding out that you and Ara are going to be a couple in that variety show. You could have at least told me, Yunho. You could have at least had the decency to tell me that we’re over.”

“I love you, I still do. I’m sorry for punching you back. It was totally uncalled for. But yeah. Tell me to fight for you, tell me to be selfish, tell me to come back to SM because I will if that’s what you want.”

Jaejoong stops to listen to Yunho’s reply, but when the only answer he gets is more silence, his heart breaks even more, if that’s even possible. After all, his heart had already been reduced to thousands of pieces prior to this conversation.

He waits for a long time for the other’s reply, but when he doesn’t get one, he gives up.

“Thanks for everything, Yunho.”

And then he hangs up - and just like that, they end their relationship.

And when he calls you to pour his heart out and break up at the same time, all you had to do was to call him back and tell him how much you love him and that you want him back. If you don’t, he’ll finish the chase. He won’t run after you anymore. He’s done.

All in all, Jaejoong is easy and not hard to please.

But Yunho doesn’t get that.

And Yunho probably will never do.

Author's note: You must hate me right now for not updating anything for more than two months. I'm really sorry, guys! I didn't know that college life would be so hectic. I thought I could cope up well but yeah, wrong expectation. TROLLOLOL. So here's a little angst. I'm sorry. Its all I can write now. (All I've been doing for the past two months is writing essays, hence, the angst LOL) Do wait for the update for Discordia and the three-shot. It will be up sooner or later. :)
