((The sound of a door, a few footsteps. Silence. Then Cain's voice, steady, clear, cold, speaking to someone...who isn't there.))
She's dead.
... ... ...
((A long pause. Perhaps here someone else speaks, but only in his mind. He speaks again, an even tone, but perhaps touched with something like superiority?))
What you were looking for was lovingly kept in her possession.
((Soft shuffling, like fabric, satin, velvet, or silk.))
Look closely: the left eye is clearly made out of glass, but the right eye is a beautiful sapphire.
((He leaves whatever it was he was carrying. It makes a quiet sound, a soft weight.))
Now, if you'll excuse me.
((Footsteps again, a hand on a doorknob, then stillness, and another pause.))
... ... ...
I wouldn't do that if I were you. If you kill me, you'll regret it. But let's stay on topic, shall we?
Do you know what happened to Solomon Grundy on Sunday?
... ... ...
The reason she kept the doll wasn't because she wanted the ring. She wanted to believe in the oath that was contained within it.
((The sound of a door opening.))
...
It's up to you whether you destroy your memories of her and acquire the ring...or rethink your situation and apologise to her.
Farewell, Solomon Grundy.
((The sound of a door closing.))

[ooc: Cain has...a lot more Crowning Moments of Fail than he does of Awesome. Or, rather, he has a Crowning Moment of Awesome...which turns out ot be a Crowning Moment of Fail. It's canon. Took me a while to think of a good one for him today. However, this one basically stays on the side of Awesome. It's an obscure little side story at the end of volume 5. Cain's been reliving it for the day. We're going on the assumption that either the curse turned on his device in his pocket or the (spoiler!!) doll he was carrying bumped it and turned it on.]
