I hate lanyards. They are ridiculous. But what's more ridiculous is the fact that people seem to be very happy to wear the stupid, annoying, dangly objects around their neck.
At the place where I work today, I was given a lanyard which I'm now supposed to put around my neck like some sort of dog tag. It's for security reasons, which I have no problem with, but what's wrong with wearing your ID on a badge, eh? A simple badge pinned to the front of my shirt would solve any security-related issues whilst crucially not being the most irritating thing in the world to wear. Why do so many people choose to have dangly things getting in their way? Not only lanyards, but ties, necklaces and things like that. Why don't these people want to rip these stupid things off of them in frustration at their annoyingness?
The other thing about the lanyard I've been given is that it has a twist in its strap. It's essentially a Mobius band, an object which I happen to enjoy for its interesting topological properties, but not so much for its inability to be symmetrical. If I have to have a preposterous and irritating thing around my neck for most of my time awake, I at least want it to be symmetrical!
I did enjoy Barbara's Deal or No Deal today though, just in case you think I'm some sort of hate machine who can't abide anything. It's only dangly things I have an issue with right now. Anyway, Barbara won £7500.
