Lack of drive

It seems that each day I regret my decision to give my formerly broken netbook to a dodgy man to fix just a little bit more. Because today I discovered that he decided that he was going to wipe the original hard drive of its data before he returned it to me.

I don't know why he did this. Perhaps he thought he was being helpful, removing any potentially confidential information from the drive before it got disposed of. But when I'd specifically asked for him to give the drive back to me "so that I can try and get data off it", it is a bit annoying.

The most frustrating thing about it is that the drive itself seems to be perfectly useable and undamaged. It's just wiped free of all of those useful and interesting files that were once on it. So, not only have I lost all of that data, I probably didn't even need to get a new hard drive fitted into the netbook at all. Gah!

There is still a very slim chance that I might be able to access the stuff that was on the drive if I can find somebody with the ability to forensically examine what data is on the drive and possibly piece together the important files. But realistically, it looks as though I've just ended up with a spare 160GB hard drive which I don't really need.

Anyway, I cheered myself up by watching Eleanor's entertaining game of Deal or No Deal, which gave her £11,000.
