It's been a really fun 2 months leading up to these next few days. Met some kickass Polish folks and we engaged in many wacky heathenistic adventures that I should have been updating on previously to today.
Of course, today was spent prepping for Ivan. I'm surprised no one has superimposed Dolph Lundgren's head from "Rocky 4" above the eye under the subtitle, "I must break you." I mean, literally, the similarities are *scary*. An unknown force of nature with a gaudy record of destruction barreling towards America? I can even hear Carl Weathers (this time as a meterorologist) declaring, "This chump's an amateur! It'll be no sweat!" just before he's pummeled to death.
In this case, the folks and I are pulling a Rocky and exercising caution. Since we live in St. Andrews, that means a lot of caution. The next door neighbors secured some bags and a huge pile of sand from the county this morning, and the guy next to them lent his riding mower as a tractor for us to haul them to our house. I'm *really* glad we have cool neighbors. Now the garage is sealed off and the windows are boarded up, and hopefully (fingers crossed) the drainage ditch next to the house will stay unclogged this time.
Seeing as how everyone south of i-10 is required to evacuate before noon tomorrow, we're hitting the road tonight. The folks are headed to Texas, while I'll be using this time as an excuse to head up to Oxford till Sunday. Traffic up 49 from Gulfport to Hattiesburg is taking 4 hours. Time to drive the backroads of Mississippi at night. This should be interesting.
Well, I'm off. I wish good luck for the other folks jetting the Coast right now; I know it's hectic as hell for most families. Hope the hose stays dry, and the massive pine trees next to this place stay rooted. If not, it may be a knockout punch for this place. Can hear this hurricane now: "If he dies, he dies."
DRAGGGGOOOOOOOOOOO!
