on having a holiday

I'd forgotten what it was like to read a whole novel in one day. It was about 300 pages, so nothing monstrous, but it was very compelling and heartbreakingly romantic - it affected me more than Jane Eyre, which is saying something. :P Of course, it was a story about Ancient Rome from the reins of Tiberius to Vespasian, so the historical aspect of The Course of Honour also kept me happy. The funny thing about the book is that the author, Lindsey Davis (one of my favourites), usually writes humourous mystery novels, so it was interesting to read something more dramatic from her.

Hmmm... so that's the third book I've read since last Wednesday. In addition to that, I've seen six movies, mowed the backyard, and went for a nice long walk in the woods (where I saw four deer). Yesterday, when I went for that wilderness walk, I took along my great-uncle's old cane, joking to my mum that I'd pretend to be House. Her response: "You don't need to pretend!"

I took it as a compliment.

Today, my left knee hurts like hell, so now I am limping around like House (I won't forgive my mother for cursing me in this way). I blame it on falling down the stairs of a lecture hall in February and smashing that knee on my desk last week. I've probably smashed it to bits by now with my clumsiness. Next time I go to the mall, I'm taking my cane!
