You don't have any idea at all? That's too bad. Everyone would die, in that case.

Depends on who the other people are, I guess.

Hmm, good point. Many people would have a different answer depending on their relationship to the others, I suppose. Let's say they're acquaintances, but not close friends.

In that case it depends on who that pregnant woman is. If she's a nobody I would try to rescue others by risking her life, but if she's someone close to me I would let her live.

So you would make the decision based entirely on your relationships to the people involved. Interesting. You don't think that's a little selfish?

Well, well. I do hope someone has a coat-hanger, Mr. Rokudo.

I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone's answers. Definite ones are preferable~

I'm not sure coat hangers are part of this scenario, Professor.

I agree, being wishy-washy will get people nowhere. What would you do?

Perhaps not, but it should give you a clue as to what I'm thinking personally~

If I myself were in such a scenario, I would talk to the others with me and gather their opinions - after all, you can't forget you aren't alone and your companions are in the same moral dilemma.

Perhaps group dynamics would dictate the situation despite ones own intentions. How about you, Mr. Rokudo?

It's true, your companions might disagree with your choice. But I think in the end most of them would choose their own lives - people are very selfish. I certainly am.

And I'm sure any brave heroes could be convinced that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

If you blow the woman up, isn't there a chance that you might actually end up causing the cave to cave-in thus killing everyone?

It's possible. But if you don't, everyone but her will definitely die.

And her baby.

Yes, and her baby. Does that make a difference to you?

What kind of a dumb question is that?

mist_illusions October 16 2010, 14:53:05 UTC
It's not a question, it's a thought experiment.

redwhiteandhero October 16 2010, 14:55:02 UTC
But that would never happen.

Whether it would happen or not isn't really the point.

Besides, how do you know?
