Day Two: Favourite episode? (Part one of 2)

I always say this is impossible for me - no one episode can represent this show for me. Almost every episode has a scene in it I love. A character moment, a gory death, a joke. Even Bugs, which Kevin Parks refers to as "the episode we don’t name", has Dean in a steam shower, the boys being mistaken for a gay couple, and most importantly a piece of their backstory that really starts to examine their different perceptions, and experiences, of growing up Winchester.! And sometimes my fav scenes aren't in my fav epsiodes. WHATEVER JULES >.<

However in the interests of the meme, here's an episode from each season, one that, on this day , would be the one I'd watch right now if given the choice. ALL of these choices would change tomorrow.

Season 1: Devil's Trap (Writer Eric Kripke; Director Kim Manners)

We meet Bobby, theres that horrifically confronting scene where they interrogate Meg - Dean's rage is really scary, Dean really shows us some idea of his fragility " Dean: Killing that guy, killing Meg. I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t even flinch. For you or Dad, the things I’m willing to do or kill, it’s just, uh .... it scares me sometimes", and Sam siding with Dean against John AND OH GOD THE JOHN/DEAN SCENE THAT REMAINS THE SINGLE HOTTEST SCENE IN THE SHOW,"He’s gonna taste the iron in your blood" and Sam refusing to shoot John and OMG THE IMPALA JUST GOT T-BONED BY A FREAKING SEMI.

Season 2: Born Under a Bad Sign. (Writer Cathryn Humphris; Director J.Miller Tobin)

The jump cuts, the way the audience doesn't know whats going on, Justin Timberlake is quite the triple threat, Sam begging Dean to kill him, Hai Jo! Oh god why do I find possessed Sam about to rape Jo so hot, Dean gets shot, Bobby is smart, yep evil Sam is REALLY hot, and that final punch Dean throws at Sam. And of course they went and got their tattoos together after this! On any list of great eps this will always be there.

Season 3: Mystery Spot. (Writer Jeremy Carver; Director Kim Manners)

The first part of this episode is genius enough - to take death, Dean's death, and give it to Sam, to us, over and over and over. Its funny - until it isnt.

And then we see dark Sam, driven, vengeful.Mad. Our real glimpse at the darkness within Sam. But also of his deep mad cantlivewithoutyou love for Dean.

Season Four: Lazarus Rising (Writer Eric Kripke; Director Kim Manners)

Even after many many viewings I never tire of this episode, I never tire of it. It feels perfectly paced, and every character note and plot reveal perfect. From the stunning wordless opening four minutes directed by genius Kim Manners in what remains for me one of his greatest eps, thru to the final dramatic entrance of Castiel - into the boys lives, and into the fandom. The whole show shifted gears with this season, and its all so beautifully set up with this episode. Dean's time in Hell, Sam's twisted relationship with Ruby, the boys horrible terrible estrangement.

tbc!!!!
