"Open to creativity" or "Totally geeked"

Okay, so I joined a square-swapping group on Ravelry called Baker's Dozen. The group description goes:

In this swap you will be placed into groups of 13. Each group member will knit or crochet one 12 inch square per month to send to the member of the month. As the MEMBER OF THE MONTH (MOM), you can choose the weight (fingering, sport, worsted, bulky) and color scheme. Please do not ask for certain brands, or fibers unless allergic.

I've never signed up for a swap before, and so it's all very exciting for me! For April, 2010, our first MoM was amethystkittie. She was very open to creativity and gave us no restrictions on yarn weight, fiber content, theme, not even a colour preference. Her instructions were for us to have fun.

I worked on my square for about two-and-a-half weeks and sent it out to amethystkittie last Friday. Today, I got a message from her telling me she's gotten my square, so I can finally spill the details.

After spying on investigating amethystkittie a little bit, I was delighted to discover that she's a Harry Potter fan! Since I'm one myself, I figured I'd run with that.

I used a Golden Snitch Bookmark pattern to make a snitch in the center, surrounded by a Mandala square pattern I'd found on Ravelry done in the house colours from the novels: blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, yellow and black for Hufflepuff, silver and green for Slytherin, and red and gold for Gryffindor. I'm calling it The Seeker's Square. My friend photospice commented that I "totally geeked out for this one." I suppose I did. Anyway, I have several pictures and a ton of details/notes on the project page. But here's a picture of the whole thing for you guys to check out (click on the thumbnail to enlarge):

pics, links, creations, pieces of me, any colour you bring, communities, movies, random life events, like a good book, harry potter, happy hooker
