"Completed and ready to be" or "Brought me a Pumpkin Ice Blended"

I completed my first crochet afghan last night. It's purdy. But it seems like no sooner was it completed and ready to be enjoyed, it had to be shoved into a cardboard box and wrapped up for the people it's going to go to. **sigh** I really need to make something big for myself. I get way too attached to these things by the time I'm done, but ( Read more... )

Except that I didn't. It was already wrapped by the time I thought about it. Phooey. Mom did ask my Auntie Kathy (the mother of the bride, who is sometimes known as the photo Nazi) to take a picture of it when the couple opens it. We'll see if she remembers.

I know how you feel, except I do counted cross-stitch. Most of the pieces that I have given away have been to family members though so I can see them on a regular basis. It's hard to give something up, even to someone you care about, after you have spent so many hours working on it.

I've done cross-stitch. Not much though. It's kinda tedious and takes a long time. Crochet is much faster. I guess I'm just impatient when it comes to turning out craft projects.

But I know exactly what you mean. You get woven into it, just like the yarn you're working (or in your case, thread) and I say that I get attached to it, but it's really more like tangled into it. I really think you weave a lot into those things. Thoughts, conversations that go on around it, the music/TV/Movie you're listening to, hairs you've shed. It's kinda like Like Water for Chocolate, only instead of food, it's yarn. You know? Or am I being too freaky, here? My point is, you put a lot more than time into it, and it makes it hard to let go.

I can't knit or do anything like that, but more power to you. Take pictures!

I tried knitting. Didn't work out so well. I think my teachers (friends up at school) maybe weren't the best equipped to teach me. I actually can cast on and do the basic knit stitches, but I can't read a pattern so well, so unless you have someone hovering over my shoulder telling me what to do, I pretty much just to scarves.

For crochet, I took a proper class. I think that made a big difference. But I like crocheting better anyway, because it goes a lot faster and I feel like you can do so much more with it. But that's just me. If we ever hook up (no pun intended), I could teach you, if you want.

ooh congrats! I definitely would love to see the finished piece. And yes, it is very easy to get attached to stuff...but giving away to others and seeing their appreciation of it can definitely ease the pain a bit ^^ Oh yeah, gosh the yarn shop I go to is closing down so all yarn is 50% off. I wish I could have told you sooner. Friday, tomorrow is actually the last day. It's called Maricela's Yarn Shop in La Mirada and they're usually open from 12 to 6. I'm heading there tomorrow too, been there all this week, knitting :D. It's a shame that it's being closed down...

Is that the place with the guy who's teaching you to knit? That sucks. Still. I actually have the day off tomorrow. Maybe a trip down to Cerritos is in order? I actually have another project I'm working on. And yes, it's another gift. **le sigh**

Hey Carina, do you want to be a Spanish AP tutor? It would only be 1 or 2 hours a week and the pay is really good. This is the email that my friend sent me:

Hola Sharon~~

Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you knew any people that are willing to tutor a Spanish 4 AP student? My boss is looking for a Spanish tutor for her 12th grade son, and is willing to pay 40-50 Dollars and hour. He probably only needs it for 1-2 hours (once) per week. If you know and people that might be interested could you ask and let me know. They live in the Valley area (so it would probably be best to get someone in the L.A. area). Thanks a bunch Sharon! Sorry to bother you!

Love,
Hannah

Alright, let me know!

Oh, man! My academic Spanish is SO rusty and I can't even remember the last time I tutored anyone. So I don't think I'd be the best choice. I'm flattered you thought of me, though.

Anyway. I have Monday off for Yom Kippur. I'm going down to Irvine for the weekend to stay with a friend, but I was thinking of swinging by and hanging out on Monday if you're around. Give me a call, or leave me a comment or drop me an email.
