Quick, sharp, aimless notes buzzed against twitching lips, tickling them just slightly. The man shook his head and made a frustrated noise, ripping yet another page from his small notebook and tearing it into large pieces. They scattered like confetti as he hurled them away, and a piece of paper with half an eye drawn on it landed unnoticed in his hair.

Kyo rapped his fingers against the table and stuck his pen in his mouth, chewing on it frustratedly. Practise was supposed to start again the following week, and all Kyo had written was half a page of violent, obscenity-ridden nonsense. Not even Kyo knew what it was about this time. Most likely it was just his way of retaliating against the - dare he say it - writer's block (ICK!) that had crept into the recesses of his mind and was blocking out all coherent thoughts besides "I'm hungry" and "FUCK YOU!" Tired, Kyo let the pen fall from his mouth and cradled his forehead in one hand. He wasn't getting anywhere with this. Maybe if he had another drink...?

Suddenly Kyo started violently. The shrill ringing of the telephone in the other room brought the thoughts away from alcohol and back to the inevitable random string of cuss words. He glared in the direction of the thing, but when it seemed reluctant to back down even under the infamous Kyo Stare, he got up and went to it. Once more he tried staring it down, and failing again snatched it up and grumbled a weak "Moshi-moshi."

"Kyo?" the timid voice across the line asked. Kyo sighed, recognising the voice as that of his drummer. At least, he was pretty sure it was him. It had changed just a little, become a slight bit higher and more...resonant. Maybe he had a cold. Hearing Kyo's sigh, Shinya immediately began to apologise. "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything. I just...just didn't know who else to call..." His voice trailed off at the end of his sentence so that Kyo almost didn't hear it, but its tone struck him immediately. Taking the phone into the other room, he closed up his journal and wandered to his couch.

"No, I'm not doing anything important. What do you need?" he asked, his voice softer now and of a quality anyone who didn't know him well would never hear. Shinya stayed silent on the other end for a long time, and Kyo heard a soft whimper from one of his dogs. Sighing, Shinya shifted the phone.

"I don't really know..." he said slowly. "Something's not right. I woke up this morning and...something has changed. Something with me. The dogs are afraid of me," he said, his voice misty. Kyo's eyebrows knitted a little.

"Yeah? Shinya, what kind of something?"

"I...I wish I knew," he answered sadly. "Last night...I met Yu~ki, from Malice Mizer, you know the one?" Kyo nodded and answered in the affirmative. "Well, you wouldn't think so if you've only seen pictures, but there's something about him. I took him home for a...well, for a one-night-stand, I suppose. And he barely touched me, but I was just..." He hesitated, dropping the thought after a moment. "Then this morning I woke up and heard someone in the house, but no one was here. I didn't hear anyone leave. And...the dogs are afraid of me," he added again, and Kyo heard another soft whimper. He shook his head.

"I don't understand," he said. There must really be something wrong, he thought to himself, for Shinya to give so detailed, and long-winded, an explanation. There was silence across the phone, and he waited patiently. Shinya sighed softly.

"Neither do I." Suddenly the phone was heard to shift again, and a soft noise like knocking reached Kyo's ears. "I have to go," Shinya said abruptly. "Sorry to bother you."

"No, it was nothing. Please call me again if you need to." With that, they said their goodbyes, and Kyo set the phone down. The call left him feeling somewhat depressed, which was usually a very good mood to write in, but no matter how he waited nothing came to him. Not even when he went to provoke his scorpion did any images of death or even happiness flood his mind. The phone rang again as he was closing up the cage, and he stalked to it and picked it up immediately and grumbled into it once more.

"Glad you're in a good mood," the voice across the phone responded cheerily. Kyo rolled his eyes, a small smile forming on his lips.

"What the fuck are you calling me for?" he asked playfully. The voice scoffed.

"Thought you mught like to go out with me. I just got the feeling you needed to...relax," it responded. Kyo smiled again as he practically heard his friend stretching out across his couch as he spoke this last word.

"What did you have in mind?" he asked, a little huskily, and the voice laughed derisively.

"You naughty boy! Nothing so much as that. Just a drink maybe..." The voice trailed of at the end of the sentence, and Kyo smirked.

"When and where?" he asked.

"How's now? Closest bar." Kyo shook his head.

"No bars. I can't think in bars." The voice made a noise of quiet assent.

"That's what I thought. Well, if we're going to fix that little problem, maybe you should come over." Kyo laughed a little, and the voice joined in softly.

"Maybe later. How's coffee sound?" he asked suddenly, wondering where the idea had popped into his head from. The voice laughed a little more.

"Okay, Mr. I'm-not-addicted-to-caffeine. See you at the closest coffee shop. How's that?"

"Mm. Much better," Kyo responded, and without another word hung up his phone and went for his shoes.

Kyo met the owner of the voice inside the coffee shop, as the man had somehow gotten there - and ordered - before him. But Kyo was used to that by now, and merely got himself a black coffee and sat across the table from him.

"Oh, good, you brought your notebook," the man said, and taking it from Kyo immediately opened it and scanned the newest entry. As he drank and read, his expression sank, until he was practically scowling at the page, and Kyo was smiling broadly in return.

"That bad?" he asked. The man took his cup from his lips and scoffed.

"What the hell is it?" Kyo laughed aloud this time and took the notebook back.

"I have no idea." His companion took another drink, but made a small noise mid-drink.

"Hey, did you ever write the one about that prostitute that almost killed you?" His eyes growing instantly to the size of dinner plates, Kyo slammed his drink back onto the table and shushed him enthusiastically, making him stifle raucous laughter.

"Oh my god..." he mumbled, settling back in his chair. "Don't ever talk about that in public." The man choked back the rest of his laughs, nodding.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. But did you?" It took a moment for Kyo to respond, and when he did he continued to stare into space.

"Tried. Failed. It's a curse, you know." The man nodded a little, eying Kyo somewhat. Suddenly, Kyo sat forward in his chair and pointed discreetly behind him. "Hey, do you recognise that guy?" he asked, and the man turned around to follow the finger. This time, it was his eyes that bugged, and Kyo laughed softly, leaning back in his chair once more. "That's what I thought. Figured I'd ask a Malice Mizer fan, just to be sure." The pointed-out man shifted his gaze suddenly to their table, and Kyo's companion gaped slightly. At the other table, the man set his drink down and rose, smoothing his clothes before starting for them. Closing his mouth, Kyo's friend turned back to the table and took a shot of his drink, and Kyo merely watched him, smirking.

"Koji," the other man said, quietly, and Kyo instantly got chills from his voice. He blinked a few times, finding it odd that in person his voice had that kind of effect on him, while recorded it did no such thing. Kyo's friend closed his eyes for a moment, then turned and rose slowly, bowing a little to the man.

"Yu~ki," he responded, almost as quietly, avoiding his gaze. Kyo gave them an inquisitive expression.

"Wait. You know him?" he asked. Koji turned to him and nodded a little, taking his seat once more. Smiling somewhat dumbly, but with a mischievous glint in his eyes, Kyo turned his gaze onto the former Malice Mizer bassist.

"Yu~ki-san," he said, gesturing a little toward a nearby chair. "Would you like to join us?" Smiling a little sadly, Yu~ki shook his head, and then turned his eyes to meet Kyo's. The blonde's breath caught in his throat. Shinya had been right, he was...mesmerising.

"I'm afraid I can't. I'm waiting for a friend to return, and then I'll be leaving with him. However, thank you for the offer, Kyo-san." Still somewhat captivated, Kyo merely nodded, and Yu~ki bowed once more before gliding away. His eyes still large, Kyo slowly turned back to Koji, who was glaring at him indiscreetly.

"He's...something," Kyo said softly. Koji snorted.

"Yeah, something's right. Something other than human." Grudgingly, he threw back the rest of his coffee, and then stood. "Come on, Kyo, let's walk. Maybe you'll get something if we walk." Kyo nodded, rising quickly and taking his coffee with him. As they left, he threw a fleeting glance back at Yu~ki, and saw with him someone he swore he recognised. But from behind, and at such a quick glance, he couldn't tell, and let the thought fall from his mind as he followed Koji outside.

Distractedly, the two of them walked in silence around what Kyo figured must have been half the city, as by the time they were circulating back to his house the sun was going down. They'd stopped for a sandwich at midday and eaten in silence, but walked the rest of the time. That was one of the things Kyo really liked about Koji: he seemed to get him better than anyone. As if anyone really understood Kyo. But Koji was the best at it, and sometimes Kyo could swear he was reading his mind. Like that day, when he knew the best thing for Kyo was silence, to let him catch any thoughts that might be passing by. By the end of the day, he'd written down a few unrelated thoughts, and felt that was about all he was going to get, so Koji, practically reading his mind, as usual, had turned them toward his home. As they came in sight of the place, Kyo stopped and turned to his friend. His hair was frazzled and in his face, and his eyes were squinted against the occasional wind. Kyo smiled, finding the picture before him cute and alluring, just as he'd found it for all the many years they'd known each other. It was the kind of expression Kyo liked to kiss off the man's face, when they were alone. Koji glanced down at him after a moment, and smiled a little.

"What?" he asked, as if he already knew the answer. Kyo merely smiled back a little, shaking his head. "Here, then. I'd better go. Get some sleep, okay? Or at least write a song. You don't want to waste an entire 24 hours." Kyo nodded again, turning his back to Koji to face his building, and the man was gone before Kyo knew it. Sighing and palming the notebook, Kyo let his chin fall onto his chest and walked toward his building. Suddenly, after only a few steps, he ran straight into something, and cursed loudly. The something turned out to be a person, and as he was catching himself Kyo started a train of apologies.

"No, no, it was my fault," the person responded, and Kyo's mouth stopped working. It was that voice, the voice he'd been hearing in the back of his mind all day. And as the person righted themselves, their wavy black hair falling out of their eyes, and met Kyo's gaze dead-on, Kyo shivered.

"Yu~ki-san," he said quietly, and bowed a little. "No, really, it was my fault. I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Neither was I," Yu~ki responded, but gave up quickly, shaking his head. Kyo noticed he seemed just a little dejected, or maybe just tired. But no matter his condition, Kyo felt his mind begin to turn over again. When they'd met earlier that day, he'd felt inspiration seeping into his mind, but as soon as they'd parted it flew like a bat out of hell, almost as if it didn't really want to be there. He'd dismissed it, ignoring it all day, until now, when it was staring him straight in the eye, and god was it doing something for him.

"Yu~ki-san, you look tired. Would you like a drink?" he asked suddenly, becoming aware of his words right after he'd said them. Yu~ki smiled just slightly, then shook his head.

"I don't think so," he began to say, but Kyo cut him off.

"Please. You denied me your company already today. And you really look like you need a drink," he added hopefully. Yu~ki's smile grew a little.

"Maybe just one," he said after a moment, his voice rougher than Kyo had heard it. Nodding stiffly, Kyo strode forward and began to lead him toward the building. But before he could reach the door, he was suddenly against a wall on the side of the building, and Yu~ki was stepping up to him. Slowly, the older man pressed them close, his hands falling onto his shoulders. Kyo found himself stumbling over inquiries as Yu~ki's breath suddenly brushed across his jaw, and his lips pressed just slightly against the side of his neck. He moaned as the lips brushed across his skin, his eyes fluttering closed and all coherent thought abandoned. The notebook fell from his hand and clattered onto the ground beside him, but his hands stayed obediently by his side. Yu~ki's lips pressed against his artery, kissing him softly.

"Mmm...Kyo..." he breathed, and Kyo felt himself go cold. Something was wrong. Very wrong. But all thoughts were banished as he felt something press hard against him, as if he were at the dentist and being injected with a numbing agent. Instead of pain, however, Kyo was immediately overwhelmed by waves of pleasure, flowing through his body from his neck to his toes and back again. He flexed his fingers in agitation, moaning loudly and trying not to move. Whatever Yu~ki was doing, it was better than anything he'd ever experienced, and he wasn't about to let it stop. But the feeling was slowly slipping from him, his body going cold and numb, and he felt Yu~ki's arms come around him gently, supporting him when he could no longer stand. His mind swam, but he managed to stay conscious, and was barely aware when Yu~ki withdrew from his neck and pressed something to his lips. It was then he blacked out, and he would never remember those next few moments.

When Kyo awoke he was laying next the wall he must have passed out against. He was somewhat cold, but unhurt. Sitting up slowly, he examined his surroundings with his new sight. Slowly, a smile crept onto his face. He rose carefully, moving slowly to experiment, quickly getting used to the feel of his new condition. His notebook lay on the ground nearby, and he bent to pick it up. Smiling, he slipped one hand into his pocket and walked off. It was going to be a long time before he ran out of things to write about...
