musings on House and Wilson

I’ve always been a sucker for dweeb-y guys (maybe because I’m such a dork myself) and Wilson looks like he was the biggest nerd in high school: smart, studious, poor dresser, and totally geeky. When House was interviewing for Cameron’s replacement, he told that poser guy that if he really wants to rebel, he should wear pocket protector like Wilson. And he’s right. Those nerdy kids (um, I mean, us nerdy kids) got teased way more than any new-Agey fake poser rebellious kids who became Buddhists or painted their fingernails black. However, many of those nerds became brilliant scientists, computer programmers, and yes, doctors. Now all the chicks dig the once-nerdy Dr. James “Panty-Peeler” Wilson because he saves lives, helps people, makes good money, and, well, chicks dig doctors, I don’t know why exactly but since I started watching House, I dig ‘em too. (“dig” = lust after like crazy).

But Wilson is not some smooth-talking suavey sports-car driving doctor (that would be House, heh). He is still nerdy, still wears the pocket protector, has a bit of hero worship for bad-boy House, and is still sensitive and caring. Maybe that’s why the combination is so hot. How can you go wrong when the cool guy becomes friends with the total nerd? It’s like the plot of every teen movie ever written! Except in this case, House, cool though he may be, is friendless, and Wilson, nerd though he may be, is a chick magnet and has more friends than House does. They are just the perfect combination: one is cool-but-loserish, the other nerdy-but-popular.

I like to play around with these different roles in my fics. House is a slightly domineering bad-boy but of course, we all know he’s a wounded soul. Wilson may be kind and sensitive but he often provokes House something wicked, like when he reminds him that he’s friendless and hasn’t gotten laid in five years (well, except for hookers and that one time with Stacy).

House, the way I write him (not entirely the OC but a girl can but try), is on one hand, unabashed about wanting Wilson. He doesn’t dwell on the fact that it means he’s gay, he’s not all torn up about it, and he doesn’t even see such a big difference between being friends and lovers. I don’t believe my fictional House loves Wilson any more now that they’re sleeping together. But I think it just makes the whole idea of how much he needs Wilson that much more apparent to him. It’s like a validation of their friendship. My fictional Wilson worries more about ruining their friendship. Or at least, he did at first. I think he now understands that nothing will take that away, no matter what happens. I’ve written Wilson to be much more sensual than House. He’s the one who’s always flushed and panting, who really gives himself up to it, whereas House holds a little something back. This is in keeping with their characters: Wilson is more open, he can share his sexual feelings, whereas House is crafty, he wants to keep a little bit for himself.

I also admire the two characters physically (which is my genteel way of saying that I lust after them something terrible). Wilson has those rosy lips, that soft brown hair, which just about drives me crazy. When he smiles, he transforms himself from a nice-looking fellow into a way-hot, gorgeous man whose smile melts my heart. Yes, I can see where the Panty-Peeler reputation comes from. I doubt I’d be able to resist him, if I were employed as a nurse in PPTH. But of course we all know his heart belongs to House! House is way, way sexy, crazy-sexy-like-whoa. Don't even get me started about those intense blue eyes, or the rapid acceleration of my heartbeat will become a serious health concern. Even though he’s crippled (or was, depending on your preference…I like crippled House better but I don’t know why), he’s still immensely masculine. Maybe because he’s so tall and he does have that slightly dominant streak, always wanting to be the boss of everyone, and so often right because he’s so damned smart and such a good diagnostician. I can just picture what would happen if I were a clinic patient and he were my doctor. I am sure my heart would thud as soon as he walked in the room, and that his sex appeal would be almost tangible. He has this animalistic sexiness, I can almost see the heat rising from his body. And he’s right, the chicks do dig the cane. I don’t know why, but they do. Maybe it brings out the nurturing instinct, who knows? But any woman who tries the nurturing instinct on House would be quashed the way Cameron was. I don’t think House wants any soft gentleness. That’s probably why he likes Stacy; she’s bitter too. However, Wilson is clearly his heart’s desire. Wilson is the perfect foil, the perflect complement to his own strengths and shortcomings.

I think they are way hot together! House + Wilson = true ♥
