Last week was long and stressful....
It started out by going in to apply for a marriage license on Monday. When we got to the courthouse with our blood test results, we were told there was a three day waiting period before issuing the thing. I just about had a stroke but we got it first thing Thursday morning and all was well. Next, Tad couldn't get ahold of Brandon to make the cake for us, so there I was spending all of Wednesday mixing cake batter and popping pans in and out of the oven as quickly as I can. That went relatively well but that night Tad and I had to meet with our pastor one last time and when we got home we found that Rocky had gotten to the cake and eaten half of it!!! I have never been so mad at that dog, she's still stepping lightly around me! I feel kind of bad for that but still, that was a lot of extra work! The good news was that it turned out fabulous, I don't think I've ever made anything quite as delicious :P
Then there was the inevitable family drama. Certain nameless parties who were not invited made a huge stink about it at the last minute leaving me with a full seating chart trying to figure out what to do with their loathful selves. I finally figure out how to swing that without further insult and guess what? She shows up with two more uninvited individuals!!! And last but not least was the day of. Tad left early to get set up while I got ready at home. I was sitting in my kitchen with my aunt while my mom fixed my hair when Tad called to say that he was pretty sure it was going to rain and what did I want to do. That was the last thing I needed to hear but it was also the last breakdown I had. After throwing my phone across the room and crying that we should have eloped, I reminded myself that nothing had changed since the day we started planning for an outdoor ceremony. I said one more prayer and let Mom finish my hair. Tad called a few minutes later to tell me the same thing, and by the time I was showered, made up and ready to go I felt better. The girls and I showed up to a beautiful afternoon in the park and Tad and the guys had done an absolutely fabulous job of decorating! There were a few more bridezilla moments while I had to hide in my little cubicle but as soon the music started playing and I saw Tad, every last frazzled nerve was worth it.
When we finally got the park cleaned up and everyone out of there we got to go do some partying at 24. Thank you guys for that! Even if we didn't stay long it so nice just to relax with cool people after the family BS. We stayed up super late and slept in the next morning but made it to Birmingham Saturday night. We stayed on the north side and went to Rickwood Caverns the next day. That was a lot of fun. It was inside (obviously) so we didn't have to get rained on and there were these little tiny brown bats that were so darn cute I wanted to take them home with me! Later that day we went to the Alderidge Botanical Gardens and the Galleria Mall. Monday we saw a movie before we came home. We also tried desperately to go out to sushi but every single place we found was closed. That was really weird. Anyway, we made it back and now it's back to the work schedule from hell and not seeing nearly enough of each other... But yay, we're married now!
