Well I'm home from the most amazing 5 days ever!!I really don't know where to start. I saw at least 4 shows a day and met more friends up there than I have done in London in the past 6 months!
Highlights, hmm. I would have to start with my gracious hostess Alice. Thank you so much for letting me stay and being such great company when I wasn't off meeting the rest of Edinburgh! Friday night with the Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Pythonesque cast was my favourite night. Met up with Dangermouse and went for dinner with them all. Went drinking with James, Claire and Mark. All met up again at the Penguin Cafe gig which was amazing ( felt so proud watching Darren play) and drank the night away and danced to all manner of crap outside the Guilded baloon. Pretty much lost my voice that night. Then went to see Pythonesque the next day thanks to the boys giving us tickets. I loved their show. There were some beautiful monologues and sketches and they are great actors! They're the lovliest bunch who I really hope to stay in touch with (Mark only lives in Twickenham so I think I have a new cinema buddy).
I went to at least 5 magic shows. Pete Firman, Chris Cox, Bamboozlement, James James and finally got to see Piff the magic Dragon. All very different shows, but some great stuff in all of them!
Circa was beautiful. A mix of dance and acrobalance that was totally brilliant! Patti Plinko was also fab (along with dancing like a fool to the Guilty pleasures disco with her, her boy and Alice at the Assembly Rooms) and the Flanders and Swann show we went to made me so nostalgic as I used to listen to their music with my granddad when I was a kid.
Was very proud of Amy in her first acting role in "School for Scandal" with a host of comedians and Lionel Blair also in the cast. Got to have a quick drink with her and briefly met Lionel. I was also very proud of Alice in her solo show, a tough thing to do and the show had some great stuff in it.
Saw a few cabaret shows at Voodoo rooms and Assembly halls which were great. All the usual suspects on top form. Also got to have lunch with Crispin who was working the Tattoo. He offered me tickets to it, but after he had told me all about it I told him (on his advice) that I was busy!
Even the bus journey home with Luci and Marina was a DVD emotional rollercoaster. We started with season 1 of Spaced as we were hung over, then Princess Bride and a documentary about Johnny Cash that had me and Luci fully blubbing at the end and Blackadder goes forth (including the end episode with the gut renching finale.) with a little Father Ted to finish!
I'm now home and somewhat shellshocked by the whole thing. Tomorrow to recover and then Sweden until Monday.
