yah you are right, i did conflate republican/democrat with conservative/liberal, i knew it as i was doing it, but i didn't really see you guys pointing out what either term meant, so i just assumed that you, much like the general public. but i challenge you to define conservative/liberal outside the context of policy advocacy, atleast in this country.
ok, second. you say that i'm screwing around w/ my definition of country which is crucial to my critique of patriotism. i may have used the word in different places in my post, and that wasn't fair ....shit i can defend my post, i really can, but i'm on a few drugs right now. i'd love to get into this but let me say just that you can't define this particular country because there is a lack of cohesiveness to define it. also if you prefer the historical approach i think that you should loathe this country - it has a history of slavery, religous persecution, inaction/support of the Holocaust and many genocides, corporate domination sponsored by the government, executions of innocents, and an obessively materialistic anti-intellectual sexist homophobic elitist populace. The good in this country is the work of so few, it is easier to be a fan of them, than to claim the mantel of patriot and take on the whole of all the people here, past and present. Furthermore, you are splitting hairs if you think you can actually differentiate between nationalism and patriotism --the real difference is "we" are patriots and "they" are nationalists. And you can't pick and choose the history that you are proud of, ....what was i talking about. i'm spinny :) anyway eric. i'm sorry this post is incoherent, i've been taking illicit substances all day.
